He's a fine hitter.  Good eye, good power, even if he can't field.  But I wonder if he is taking his recovery seriously.  I have no backup for that, but with numerous setbacks, and he wasn't in great shape to begin with, it makes me wonder.

Hes also likely played his last game for Boston.

As he is arbitration-eligible, he will very very likely be non-tendered.  While he does have 3 options left and can hit, that might not be as valuable to Boston as it was 2 months ago.  It’s probably going to reach the point where his 40 man roster spot is more valuable than he is.

If he’s healthy, he’ll catch on somewhere…

Like I said last season, his career is most likely over. It was fun for a little while anyway.

If he ever gets healthy, someone will give him a minor league deal.

Whatever happened to his brother? Gavin Casas was this big name projected high draft pick when he was at South Carolina, and then just disappeared.  Did he even get drafted?

He went undrafted after breaking a bone in his hand at the end of his senior season. While rehabbing, he hurt his knee and had his third surgery on his right knee and realized it was the end of the line. He announced his retirement from baseball in May 2025.

Right around the same time Triston fell apart…

I can't even begin to imagine how much he regrets not listening the Sox's extension offer.

I always remind people that for every Acuna that might underprice himself, there is always someone that gets injured or hits the wall.  I remember Hinske discussing that a long time ago.  If I were a player, I'd always lock in my arb years in exchange for giving up a FA year.

I'd offer him arb.  It's only about $1M.  His potential is worth the cost, and probably the roster spot.

100%. There's always a 2nd big contract to get if you play well. Get that life-changing contract locked in,

I imagine Campbell is ecstatic he got his signed.

Casas will not be non-tendered. There is too much potential there. He is injury prone and is a head case but he can hit home runs. And, he has options. The Sox can put him at Worcester next year to see if he can regain his form so he can be of valuable to the Red Sox or for a trade.

You'd have thought so, but depends where we are with our 40 man.

If you could IL someone in the offseason, I'd hold onto him. Since you can't, it just limits roster flexibility too much IMO.

Me, too. No way I cut Casas loose to keep La Sorsa on the 40. (I can name 7-8 others.)

We do not have a 40 man roster crunch, unless Brez adds 4-5 new players without trading away any 40 man players.

Assume we add all eight 60 Day IL players to the 40, including Casas. Add to the 39 we have now and we start with 47.

Minus 4 FAs (Gray, IKF, Sandoval & Rogers) >>> 43. Lets say we add 2 Rule 5's (Brannon and Jo Garcia.) I'm being liberal, here. Now at 45.

Here is my ranked DFA/Trade list:

La Sorsa

Gasper

Gamboa

B Harris

J Jones

__________ That's 5 right there- before any add-ons________

Kelly

Eaton

1 from Sogard or Cheng

1 from Samaniego or Rivera

We can also trade Duran, E White, Houck, Crawford, Oviedo, Miller or Yoshida/Story.

Casas has earned his place over absolutely nobody. Nobody.

There are plenty of guys on the current 40 man roster that I would replace with Casas.

Agree with all of that.

The following guys have to be put back on the 40 man: Crochet, Anthony, Oviedo, Crawford, Houck, Kelly, Casas

Expiring contracts: Gray, Sandoval, IKF, Rogers

That means 3 players need to go on day one!

La Sorsa, Gamboa, Harris

However, if they need to sign anyone else, they'll need to make further moves. Frankly, I'd rather have a player on my 40 man that is healthy than an unhealthy LH platoon DH. We already have Masa and Anthony. What's Casas's spot on the BOS roster as a diminished player?

Aside from Eaton and Jones, I'd rather keep every other player that's on the 40 man than Casas.

He can't stay healthy. It's simple fact at this point. Give me someone who can at least play MLB.

You might lose the case and pay his requested salary.

Most likely they non- tender snd make a MiLB offer…

Not "earned" but he has way more upside than the 5-7th ranked guys on my list.

If we add a few players, he may end up at the top of the DFA/trade list.

Spots will open up with players departing.  Free agency, etc.

But I think the Sox will find better use than Casas.  I think the 40 man spot is more valuable than he is…

What's he gonna ask for and win?

$1.6M?

I'd keep him on the 40, at least until we add more players than we trade away.

Remember, Brez trades 10-12 guys every winter. (not all on 40 but some)

Whats with your newfound hatred of Eaton?  Earlier I swear you argued he was an egregious omission from the active roster.  Now you place him behind a Casas-shaped sack of injuries?

I like him. He's just out of options at the end of the season so he's an early cut IMO. They just don't seem interested in keeping him on the active roster. If he had another option, I'd keep him 100%.

We can/may also trade Duran or White, Story, Yoshida or a pitcher from Houck, Crawford or Oviedo or even Romy.

That's over 10 guys. Maybe some have better value than Casas, but some could be traded for different values, and maybe a 2 or 3 for 1 deal.

If Story is on the 40, we don't need all those infielders over Casas. While DH has depth, 1B does not- only Romy & Mead. Middle IF'ers are numerous: Story, Arias will be added, Mead, Monasterio, Seigler, Romy, Sogard, Sogard, Eaton. 9 guys for 2 slots?

Eaton has speed and can play OF, unlike many on the 9 middle infielders list. IMO, that's not enough to keep him over Casas and his upside offense potential.
