My apologies to Jim Cramer on CNBC for using his line!

Must trade these three because we can't win it all with our current roster.

Corner outfielder.  Bergman. Chapman.

Keeping Bergman and Chapman MIGHT get us in the playoffs, but I think participation awards are over-rated!  They are having good years and a trade now should result in a good return.  Both are free agents at the end of the year so holding on to them could result in us getting nothing for next year. (risk/reward)

We were not saved by our "Golden Three"!  Campbell got sent back to minors and is having trouble staying above the Mendoza line.  Grisham would be best for current 2B situation (we did trade Chris Sale for him).  Put Rafaela back in center where he belongs.  Mayer is hurt, hitting 228 and is useless against lefties.  Anthony at 254 looks major league ready but not up to savior status.

Trade corner outfielder - Can't play all  three every day and leave Rafaela in center,  Besides our best hitter in AAA is the Password who happens to be an outfielder.

You can include Buehler, Yoshida, Hendricks, as fillers in any trade.

I would want - Starting pitchers with team control - Righthanded power hitting first baseman - backup catcher (not Vasquez)

Sell because they went 2-5 against three first place teams?

Yeah I bet no World Series Champion ever went 2-5 over a 7 game stretch before…

You should wait until this game is over at least.

Why? Will it change their record over the previous 7 games?

Yes. As of now, we are 3-4 in our last 7.

(We are also 3-3 in our last 6 ve very good teams.)

The win tonight makes us 3-5 against the three NL division leaders.  Still 2-5 in the games I was talking about.

The Sox are looking at 3-6 or 4-5 in a pretty crazy 9 game stretch.  I’m fine with it.  There was some talk the Sox needed to go at least 4-5 in these games, which was ridiculous.  They absolutely didnt NEED to.  But they might do it.

We’re not sellers.

No go get Yandy and some pitching…

I like the $12M club option on Yandy for '26. Maybe we could pry Garrett Clevinger from the Rays in the deal. (He has 2 arbs left and is a nice lefty RP'er.)

What would it take to get Diaz & Clevinger?

I doubt they want Casas (to DH) and would likely hang up, if at least Campbell is not headlining the package.

Maybe Campbell, Bleis, Cespedes & Sandlin?

Sell and have what for next year?  We sold off Devers and literally got nothing for it.

One idea would be to sell every asset that is a FA after this year. Surely, that would add to a better outlook for 2026 and beyond.

Unless we spend the money saved with the Devers trade and departing contracts, it would all be for nothing.

(Note: I am not for selling, but if we did, we'd likely be a top contender in 2026, if we just spent to the tax line, without going over. Assuming we have a success rate like last winter.)

WAIT!  JH got 30million/year!   Then had his flunkies put out a narrative (as they do whenever they get rid of a productive player or manager) trashing him which RS fans bought hook line and sinker.  (I'm guessing there are at least 3 mixed metaphors there, but hey, it's early ...)

The Sox are 13-5 over their last 18. I prefer the larger favorable sample sizes.

Also, the Sox are 1-0 over their last 1. For those who prefer smaller sample sizes.

The Red Sox becoming sellers at this point is preposterous. I am certain that it is not even a consideration.

Absolutely. The Sox didnt soend a bunch of money to bring in Bregman and extend Crochet so they could continue building the farm.

The arguments for selling are stupid at this point.  The “can’t win it all” is meaningless.  29 teams won’t win it all this year.  Should they all sell?

I hate the arguments that they their roster doesn’t meet the requirements of the Magical Roster Formula.  Like it’s just that simple.  “Oh the Sox need a #2 starter.”  Shut up!  Yes they should improve their pitching.  Every team in the postseason hunt is going to try that.  But tell me what exactly is a “#2 starter”?  And then tell me what team is thinking “we have a good #1 and #2 starter.  We really need a #4.”

We need a #2 to be our #3 or 4 starter.

I have never understood the concept of numbering your starting pitchers. It's not like they are quarterbacks. They all have to pitch in turn. Obviously, some are better than others, but even that can vary from start to start. You have to go with Buehler tonight, even if he is only a number five. You can't start Crochet or Bello.

Saying we need a #1 or 2 means we need a solid, proven pitcher.

when you reach the playoffs, you need 3 solid SPer. One could argue we have that now, but I’d prefer adding another Ace or near ace guy.

Jim Cramer is not right very often.....Tariffs will cause inflation? Yep, that's happening.

" Solid " is kind of vague. Of course, it is good to have a staff of quality pitchers.  I just don't know why you would number them.

I like the concept. It’s a way of quantifying how good. Like grades A, B, C  ….

Baseball Reference gives the Red Sox a 61.9 percent chance of advancing to the postseason:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2025-playoff-odds.shtml

... while FanGraphs lists the Sox chances at 46.6 percent:

https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds

The Red Sox are in a precarious position but are unlikely sellers.

It seems absurd to sell when you're a postseason coin flip before the trade deadline.

Have some fun, go for it. Maybe don't sell the farm to go for it, but pick up around the margins and try to keep fans engaged for two more months.

I think the chances of getting a quality #2 starter are slim. But I hope we can get a decent rental starter to bump Fitts to the bullpen.
I would love to bring Martin back from Texas to also help in the bullpen.

Be patient.

Devers isn't setting the world on fire in San Fran and he finally showed his talent level at first.  Besides the energy this team is playing with, win or lose, is elevated since the "distraction" and his contract moved west. 30 mil. for a DH?? Good Riddance.

Actually the #1  and #2 and sometimes even the #3 will cause the lesser numbered pitchers to be skipped for starts.

That's why top starters used to get 40+ starts a year, now about 30+ starts vs 20+ for the lower ranked pitchers.

#1 will usually start every 5th day, bumping the lesser starters. With off days and travel days that count as rest days, the top starters will pitch based on the calendar and not on the game number.

So Buehler will be skipped if a better pitcher is fully rested.

And in the playoffs, teams will often go with a 3 or 4 man rotation.

Can't do it - the fanbase would go nuts. More importantly - this team will make the playoffs and should look hard at signing Bregman now. Besides on the field, he is a mentor to the younger guys we need.
