  1. If Brigham takes $40M fine - that is his option. If he wants more and more years let him go. Move Story to third and let's see if Mayer is worth the hype. If we can get Ryan by including Duran or Abreu and maybe Tolle I vote yes. We need power at First and DH - Spend money in free agency (overpay if necessary). Some of our injured pitchers must recover even if just for depth. We should have won game 2 vs Yankees.
  2. Having a cleanup hitter with 3 homers seems OK at this moment
  3. This game might be the difference! Can our ace out-duel the Hall of Fame vet? It was a good move moving the rotation to allow Crochet to start the playoff if we get in.
  4. I don't know if someone hitting under 280 with no clutch hits since I can remember is worth 40 Mil a year. Good in the clubhouse but average with a bat???
  5. Well I guess that disproves replacing the new guy with the proven Vet/
  6. that's what I was talking about - 6 innings of a shutout and you are replaced!
  7. Tom Glavine and Greg Maddox used to get by with 5-6 pitches in an inning. Course they had an extra six inches on the outside corner with most umps. Now our pitchers seem required to strike batters out and end up being done after 5-6 innings due to pitch count. Don't know what this has to do with tonight's game but thought the pitch count got pretty high quickly.
  8. Don't even know if what has been said previously has anything to do with the current situation, but we must win at least two out of three from the A's. This is the worst team remaining on our schedule - we must take advantage or fold our cards. Don't count on a Texas loss. Getting in the playoffs is not the goal - anything but winning the series sucks!
  9. Well we have improved from last year by being at least 2 games over 500. If we are to get in the playoffs it will be our pitching that gets us there. Let's see how the youngsters do in the next 2 games.
  10. We are not ready to win the playoffs - We should get in but we can't win with the current lineup.  We have a DH with little power hitting 227 and a replacement first baseman hitting 219. (Yoshida/Lowe).  We scored 4 runs in 2 games against good pitching - Just like you will see against playoff teams.  I like our young pitching but we must get replacements for the 2 mentioned hitters thru free agency or trade to contend.  Don't see a solution in our farm system.  Those two spots need to hit with power.

This team has been very streaky. We've had times like this before, when we look terrible, then we bounce back and look great for a while. I'm holding out hope we can get hot, when it counts. Maybe an Abreu return can jumpstart things.

Certainly, if we keep playing like the last 3 games, we aren't going anywhere.

  11. Projection of 2026 - 2 of the 3 AAA starters prove to be the real deal which leaves those currently on the IL being expendable. Brigham is going to opt out and we won't win the re-sign. I would move Story to third with Mayer at short. You have to keep Gonzales since he has the best BA and plays many positions. First is wide open and a free agency sign or trade for those expendable starters works. I would trade Abreu (I like Duran better). Bullpen looks OK. Ryan is expensive but maybe worth the price. The Oriole catcher is worth a look.
  12. Lets win the game and worry about what happened to our ACE later.
  13. If you are good enough to be in the major leagues then you can learn to bunt!
  14. Yesterday's topic was sacrifice bunts - what about bunting for hits? Rod Carew of the Twins was a master of that and I believe led the league in average without hitting a home run. I think guys like Duran and especially Hamilton would be wise to use bunts as a weapon.
  15. Back in the day with runners on first and second with no outs, a bunt to move the runners was a frequent call. Understand if your best guy is up you usually don't; but Gonzalez is not our best guy and he struck out. Concerning yesterday - Imagine that instead of a double the Pirates had hit into a double play. Just saying I like to dream.
  16. When you have only one real horse your options are limited
  17. When he first came up I wished for immediate triple crown talent, Now I see him as the perfect lead off hitter for the current Sox. He works walks, guys on base. His On Base Percentage is super. However, his ceiling is much higher. Sooner or later he has to hit third and be a long ball threat by lifting the ball and selecting any pitch he can drive instead of working the count.
  18. Always thought it would be our pitching that would keep us out of the playoffs - Now our hitters are showing their weakness. Not just tonight - but also in Houston
  19. I have not got an accurate count but noticed a lack of swinging at the first pitch which usually leaves us behind in the count, I hear about "making the guy work" but I often found that the first pitch was the best one I was going to see. Why not make their pitcher work while their fielders chase one in the gap for extra bases or better yet getting a new ball from the ump. Anyone else notice this or is the club policy to "work the count?"
  20. Last night while me and my good friend Yuengling Traditional Lager were commenting on Talk Sox topics I made errors correctly naming players, Sorry! On the other hand I am happy I fell asleep before I had to eat crow about how well Buehler pitched and Yoshida hit. Go SOX!!
  21. Don't know about the professionals. But in high school and military most pitchers wanted to throw first pitch strikes because they didn't want to fall behind - mostly fastballs because that is what they could control best. If you ever fell behind 0-2 you could expect a curve - look for the hanger! Don't know if it is more important to know the tendencies of pitcher, catcher, or coaches. See the ball - hit the ball!
  22. Something must have changed. In high school in the 1950"s we were asked to try stealing signs - not just pitch but location. This was most effective when on second. In football it was worse, Formations and personnel were tells. In basketball they signal the play bringing up the ball. Is this cheating or preparation? You guys decide.
  23. My mistake on Tibbs name. However, a path forward for him would be available if Abreu was included in talks for Kelly with the Twins.
  24. The Sox will have to win the bidding war to get Bregman to re-sign. Should have traded him at deadline.
