I didn’t expect this from Buehrle. 7 IP 3 ER? I take this line every day of the week. Even the pitch vs Diaz, it was a good one, you just have to tip your hat and move on like he did.

if somehow Giolito and Buehrle can be more consistent, this team will have a real shot.

Agree.  Big if.

The 7th and 8th innings were terrific examples of how good Cora is.  He sent Buehler back out to pitch the 7th, and then he pulled Wilson right before he gave the game away.

Defense has been excellent.

3 dingers by Mayer and Anthony are just unreal  Between them they have 18 games of MLB experience, including tonight.  They account for 3 runs in a 4-3 game, with Story getting the other dinger.

I could show you as well a lot of examples  showing Cora s***ing the bed.

He’s an average coach at best.

Lead off double doesn't score. How rare is that for the Sox?

This time it was on Story. Your 20 M SS couldn't bring an insurance run, whata surprise.

Anthony has no HR's tonight. Neither does Story. What game are you watching?

That splitter by Chapman for the K was nasty.  If he can command it, it's all he needs beside that fastball.

1 run win.  My, my.

Chapman took a big second air in Boston. He looks unhittable right now.

Great win, keep rolling!

A quiet night for Anthony but at least he always made contact. I expect him to explode vs NY.

Let’s f go!

Smart alec that I am, I have to say I never expected the rookies to be this good.  Even Campbell with his struggles clearly has potential.  That was a hard hit double tonight.

Attendance 36K!!  Against the Rays.  With the Sox having a losing record.  The Fenway fans like those rookies.

My bad.  I think I gave him credit for Duran's dinger.  But I agree he still looks good.  3 dingers by 2 rookies has a nice ring (but a wrong one).

Sox looked great all around--dingers, defense, pitching, you name it.

Huge CS in the 8th by Narvaez.  Huge.

Would you guys still pick Campbell over Meidroth?

The other HR was by Toro. Again, Anthony had no homers tonight.

HR's by Duran, 2 by Mayer and Toro. You got it? You're welcome.

And the Toro fairy tale continuous lol

Guy keeps hitting in Pujols territory.

Right.  Duran, Toro, and Mayer (2).  A week from now I'll do doubt give Toro's dinger by to Anthony.

The kids still have a lot of learning to do still, but they add a ton of excitement and are contributing! Really glad they are in Boston now!!!!

He will start no games vs. NY as the Bronx Bombers will start 3 lefties.

I was just reciting what actually happened in the game.  I agree Narvaez is the better hitter, OPS .814 vs .516.  I can think of 3 reasons to go with Hamilton:  1 is the righty-lefty thing; 2 is that, if Hammond got on base, he was more likely to score than Narvaez; 3 not hitting Narvaez in the 8th saved from expending energy (or getting HBP) when he was subbing for the part-time catcher Wong.

can't be the lefty-righty thing because Hamilton (.190) hits 101 points worse against righties than Narvaez (.291). it was just Cora being a little league manager. there's no other explanation because there is no way in hell Hamilton should have hit for Narvaez.

Gotta say, it was great seeing two bombs by Mayer.

With Campbell starting to shake off the slump, maybe- just maybe- the kids can give us a big enough shot in the arm to bump us over the hump.

What we do when Abreu returns will be interesting. With everyone healthy and Gregman back, I gotta think we make a trade at the deadline: maybe one as a "seller" (Abreu or Duran) and perhaps 1-3 deals as "buyers," if we are near the playoffs as July comes to an end.

Ideally, Story goes on a tear, and we can find a taker for him, without paying 60-70% of his contract. Maybe linking Story with Abreu could cut down the money going out, while brining us a nice young pitcher. Then trade for a vet pitcher.

1. L Duran/R Rafaela CF

2. R Bregman 3B

3. L Anthony LF

4. L Devers DH

5. L Mayer SS

6 R Narvaez C

7. L Abreu/R Refsnyder RF

8. R Campbell 2B

9. S Toro, R Romy 1B

Wow, 3 platoons, Red should love this one!

Crochet, __Vet pitcher__, Buehler, Bello, Dobbins>Sandoval (Houck/Crawford?)

Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Wilson, __trade__, Weissert, Bernardino, (converted SP)

Hamilton hit pretty well against righties in 2024 in a much bigger sample.  256/315/415 729 OPS

That's the explanation.

I get it, I would have rather seen Narvaez too.  But Cora did have his reasons.

I haven't been able to trust the Fenway attendance numbers since they ran with that phony sellout streak.

But Narvaez has a 795 OPS this season vs RHP. No reason to put Hamilton in.

It makes a big difference when the SP goes 5-6-7 innings, because the SP is still the make it, or break it to the success.

I know we like to make fun of "Quality Start" a lot, but going 6 innings and giving up 3 or less goes a long way to giving your team a chance to win every game. It also saves your pen in the long run. All those 5.1 starts or less add up!
