It's because they kept adding Masa to the trade. They should have just moved Devers to 1b and left Masa at DH.

Yup.

I'm almost certain Devers can be no worse than Casas on D at 1B, after just a few weeks of learning the new position.

That incident where a younger employee disrespected Hall of Famer Jim Rice answering a hitter's question reeks of the minions sent by the richest man in the world to fire lifelong government workers.

what a s***** analogy.

Houck simply can not use regular season games as his spring training to fix whatever is wrong with him.

It's unbelievable that we face starting pitching shortage, again. It's really unreal.

Thats very telling and wouldnt doubt is part of the problem. Today's culture doesn't celebrate the individual anymore, it's all about "it takes a village..." aka "no accountability." It all goes back to not wanting people to have hurt feelings.

Let's discuss their feelings in the future when they get fired, traded, or DFA'ed for lack of performance.

Only problem is that some of them already have lifetime wealth  and don't need to be  motivated.

The question is , over a growing sample size, why can't the best professionals in the world achieve a modicum of consistency which we know they are fully capable of doing ?       The answer to that one will be interesting.

Never met a government worker, especially lifers, who could accomplish anything productive , sort of like utility infielders who become managers.

Somewhere, Pythagoras weeps. But the reality is that last night only counts as one loss.  I think the blown leads and subsequent walk-off defeats are more demoralizing than the blowouts.  What is more troubling is the poor fundamental baseball they are playing. And that does not reflect well on the manager and coaching staff.

Sox are 1-3 in blowouts according to bref. Feels like it so far.

I thought we may have been nearing peak insanity yesterday, but I must say I am enjoying this idea that our now cataclysm (8-10) of a start is down to a soft generation and collective-is-better mindset.

No word on how this new observation exists in a universe in which the same aged players from the same generation are winning, but with some luck there'll be another blowout tonight and we'll get to see just how far we can ride this pony!

But superstars never make the best managers (especially superstar batters). Ted Williams got Manager of the Year once because he helped some poor hitters become average, but he hated pitchers too much to be a good skipper.

Instead, Dick Williams, a career .260 hitter, was a Hall of Fame manager. So was Sparky Anderson (one MLB season as a second baseman) and Earl Weaver (none), and someday Terry Francona -- who was described by Bill James as "a worthless player."

Tito was worth way more than Bill.

Joe Torre had almost 60 WAR. Tris Speaker won 90 games twice. Joe Cronin had a good managing career.

Another Sandy Alcantara trade rumor today.

This time the centerpiece of the trade is Rafaela Ceddanne.

I think moving a utility player plus prospects for a frontline SP who has a couple years of control is a move worth making.

Red Sox give Ceddane Rafaela, Franklin Arias, David Sandlin, and Mikey Romero.

Receive: RHP Sandy Alcantara.

Who says no to this deal? Would you do it?

The author is a clickbait king.

Here's his trade from two weeks ago sending Casas to SEA:

Here's a trade of Masa to the Royals:

He's also traded Arias & Jhostynxon to the Cardinals for Helsley:

Sure -- you can subtract my Joe Kerrigan and Ron Roenicke, if I can delete your Torre and Speaker.

Cronin the Red Sox racist GM who never signed or hired blacks was one of the main perpetrators of decades of suckitude in Boston baseball.

However, the Red Sox did not sign any Black free agents between the 1972 start of the free agency system and 1993, thereby missing out on a substantial portion of top baseball talent during that twenty-one year period.

Damn you Joe Cronin! It's all YOUR fault! Not that they couldn't sign a black free agent until Jean Yawkey finally died in 1992. Cronin may have been a complicit POS, but I think the Yawkeys put a lot of pressure into how that team looked from the 30's to the 90's. Good thing Tom was inducted into the HOF and Jean was on the Board of Directors of the HOF.

Well that and targeting unrealistic returns like Woo.

"Cronin... was one of the main perpetrators"

Yawkey loved Cronin, who refused to sign Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays. Many of the GMs who took over after him came from the same Good Ole Boy Network.

I'll take your word on the first one but the second one might not stand up to scrutiny.

Duran has looked good, tonight. Maybe this is the start of something special.

Story still tellin'.

Duran starting to produce would be a big boost to the offense.

Story has a quiet 123 wRC+ too.

Since April 2 (14 games), he's 902 OPS and 158 wRC+.

Overall, on a 5 fWAR pace.

We are 11.7% through the season. Projected fWAR: (8.5 x current fWAR)

He needs to be better about planning these things out if he doesn't want to miss time during the season.
