An American car?  He’s really left his homeland behind!

I think it's likely any day now we have either Arenado or Bregman on the roster.  The question after that comes down to pitching, will we add another reliever?

If we don't, hopefully it's because of a clean bill of health in camp.

I think the chances are less than 10% on Bregman and maybe better than 50% on Arenado.

I'm thinking less than 1% on Robertson, so I'm not sure anyone else, other than by trade, is not a big add.

If we do add a 3Bman, maybe a trade follows: I just hope it's not Casas. Replacing Casas' bat with Breg or Arenado would hurt the O vs LHPs and RHPs. Even replacing Yoshida's bat is not going to be an improvement. (Only replacing Rafaela's bat would see a plus on O.)

Maybe we trade for Arenado and trade Abreu for a catcher or closer, then go with Anthony in RF. Hard to know.

I doubt it's Herrera, either.

I heard the mystery player is Ozzie...

... not Smith, Osbourne!

Oz said he was about to play "Iron man", but when he heard it was Boston, changed his set to "Paranoid."

Cutter with a lingering knee injury and Bello with shoulder sorness to open Spring Training Injury Roulette.

Bello had minor soreness and was shut down but apparently is already back to throwing.

concerning, but on the other hand they’re probably overly cautious with guys out the gate.  What could be some fatigued, and a little sorness could turn into missing 1/2 a season vs. no time at all if you ramp back up to quickly.

im sure someone will go down.  Someone always does every year.  It happens all over baseball

The Boston Red Sox have a new-look rotation ready to take the AL East by storm in 2025, but they might not be done rounding it out just yet.

According to MassLive.com's Sean McAdam, the Red Sox have spoken with the San Diego Padres about possibly trading for starting pitcher Dylan Cease. Boston's interest is leaning more towards "due diligence" than "aggressive pursuit," per McAdam, but there have at least been preliminary discussions of some kind.

I'd love adding Cease, but the one and done part scares me away. His cost would be huge, and we'd be narrowing our window towards 1 year.

Our biggest need is a catcher and closer.

Our biggest strength is our rotation and its depth.

While, I'm never against improving our rotation at or near the top, this seems like going in the wrong direction.

I agree, seems an odd move. Abreu, McAdams was suggesting would be the main piece.

If we see Anthony as an equal or better RF option over Abreu, then adding Cease would be a plus. (Campbell can also play OF.)

My philosophy has always been to beef up the top of the rotation and improve the weakest links. I think we already did about as much as can be expected on upgrading the rotation (Crochet, Beuhler, Gio> Pivetta,) and so that leaves looking to improve our weakets areas:

Closer, having Hendriks, Chapman, Whitlock and Slaten as our 4 top set-up men makes that area much better, too.

Catcher; mostly defensively

RHB: could be a catcher, if we find a way to take a team into trading a top flight catcher. (I don't think Bregman "fixed" the RHB issue, but he helped.)

Havin just 2-3 weak areas is pretty damn good. One addresses half of the catcher issue (just defense) and the other has 4 pitchers somewhat capable of stepping into the closer role. (Gio might be another closer option.)

This looks like a pretty solid team, to me, but I must be a homer, because we are still ranked 13th to 18th in most projectiosns.

I don’t believe Raffy has started full scale defensive drills yet to next week, but it was reported in real time that Raffy working out at 3B this morning. As Cora has said Raffy is behind in his conditioning.

You'd think Raffy would have come to camp, in shape and ready to prove he can be a good 3Bman.

I guess he missed the memos.

Do we know his shoulders are 100 percent?

I'm not sure anyone can know that with 100% certainty.

Did any of the rabid media think to ask him about that?

Yes. A sign of our times.

It's always been like that, it's just that we're inundated by it now because of the net.

This is old news. Cora spelled this all out a few days ago when he said Raffy was behind on his conditioning, and has been mentioned a few times on here since then.

Being "behind on conditioning" is different than what is posted above in relation to his shoulder. Hope that helps.
