Depends on his performance. If he bangs 30/40 HRs and stays on the field, he'll have plenty of value.

My worry is he'll have another half a season out with one thing or another, which will kill his value.

Even 30-40 HR 1Bmen are not getting that much as FAs or via trade.

That's fair, but they're older and declining. Cass has fairly high value now, and you're only getting his bat.

And zany personality.

I like Casas, and I hope he can improve his defense. We have enough DHs.

I don't think his trade value equals his vale to us.

I agree with that, which is why I don't think we've been able to move him for young pitching.

His value took a huge hit with his IL stint last season.

The problem with prospective trade partners just might be more than a stint, because Casas' specific core ish could ruin his career.

Before Tris can raise his value, he really needs to show the industry he's fully recovered and can swing just as hard -- and produce consistently, without recurrence of injury -- for at least a half season... like when he barreled the second half of his rookie year.

Agree100%. If  Casas has a full productive year this year his trade value would go up, and I don’t think having one less year control would hurt that trade value much, or if any at all. His ist arb year isn’t until the 2026, which is still plenty of time of control.

Having an in-game baseball injury is one thing, Triston's issue is a red flag.

Almost as much as the pop-up ads for hand guns spread across my entire screen at the bottom of this page.

But there's free shipping! (luckily, they can't reach my house by ship)

I wonder if we will start seeing more injuries like this.  Pitchers are throwing harder, it seems to follow that hitters have to swing harder.

I think that's an issue with your browsing. I get adds for health care, Vanguard and local stores like Publix.

I'm not so sure, but I'm also not a current Trackman employee.

Triston has just been a guy that has been injured most years since he's been drafted (not quite as bad as Mayer, but similar).

We need hitters, guys that can get on base.  Who do we have nobody.  Who do we have?  Whose jersey on offense do I want?  Nobody.  I'm extremely disappointed.

We have the 12th best OPS guy since 2022 (Devers at .866) and the 29th best, too (Casas at .830.) Duran is 43rd and has 65 SBs in 1207 PAs.

From 2023-2024, we have 3 batters in the top 30 in OPS w700+ PAs:

.860 Devers

.838 Casas

.832 Duran

You mentioned OBP, something that used to matter to Theo's Red Sox, perhaps more than anyone else, except Billy Beane's A's, and we do lack some, in that area. With 30 teams, we should have one in the top 30 and 2 in the top 60. Here is what we have since 2023:

28. Casas .357 (Barely one in the top 30)

34. Devers .353 (2 points from top 30)

56. Duran .343

59. Yoshida .343 (4 in the top 60 is two better than average.)

If you lower the PA cut off to 550:

22. Refsnyder .363, 29. Casas .353, 35. Devers .352, 58. Duran .343 and 61. Yoshida .343 (5 in the top 61.)

Who is out there?

12. Yandy Diaz (trade) .375 (He also kills LHPs, but plays 1B.) 15. Guerrero .371 (trade and also 1Bman) 24. Suzuki .361 (trade)

FA: 32. Profar .354, 68. Bregman .341. 89. Grichuk .331

Agreed. Signing Bregman and trading Casas feels like a step back, even if I include some help at C and/or RP in return. It doesnt make sense to me to trade Casas at a low point right now.  Now, I do agree with Notin that value may go even lower (e.g. he gets some value back by staying healthy next season, but this is more than offset by decreasing value due to loss of 1 yr of control)...

I was open to trading him at one point, but at this point its kind of hard to view that being our best path forward at present.

Agreed , its an elephant in the room

I think we just have to accept that our offense , scratch that , our team, is all a bunch of wildcards for this year.

Can Casas, Story, Yoshida stay healthy and productive

Can Cedanne, Abreu take a step forward

Can the defense be at least adequate/not-a-train-wreck

Can the big 3 prospects work their way in help

Its a bit much to ask, for me personally, especially for a team that has generally been solid hitting over the last couple of decades, which is why I was for reinforcing the lineup. Also having a top 3 hitting team in the AL takes pressure off the pitching staff.

Starters look good on paper, but there are some uncertainties in that group too. And I know you will always have uncertainties, but it seems like we have an uncomfortable amount up and down the team.

But better to have wildcards than confirmed duds. I can see us being competitive for a playoff spot, but I can also see the bottom falling out.
