With the Chapman signing  I guess there goes all the PR would be bad arguments

Touche.  But Chapman seems to have been cleared, so to speak.

Actually it's going to be interesting to see how the Chapman signing is received.  I'm pretty surprised by it, frankly.

I’m surprised also. But it does show the Sox don’t care about the PR

And they just might regret it here.

On that last statement

1.  I assume the author of the quote either forgot Trevor Bauer is a free agent or else he just gives Chapman a higher POS Rating.

2. Next off-season, we could have Chapman, Bauer and Marcell Ozuna all on the market all at once.  I eagerly await the rankings.

We could do worse from a PR standpoint.  Imagine the outcry if we have a Cora-Bregman reunion…

Stats doesn't consider Bauer to be a FA as he doesn't believe any team would sign him.

I think signing Bregman isn't as bad as signing Chapman.

What I believe and what 30 other GMs believe may not be the same. I get that.

Obviously, they think the PR hit is not worth the possible upside of signing him. I'm just giving my opinion, knowing it does not mesh with others, in this case.

I'd sign him to a cheap deal, if we add Soto. I think the massive high we'd get from a Soto signing would help canceL out the negative PR from adding Bauer.

or we could sign Chapman if we want negative pr

Nowhere near as bad.

How hard is this?

Chapman abused a woman.

Bregman abused the rules so he could beat the Yankees and Dodgers.

What Bregman did was so beyond the pale that he wasn't even suspended or fined for it.

Eff it, I mean, you already signed one bad PR guy, mine as well get two of them in there on one year deals.  Or we can go all out and sign Julio Urias too and make it a threesome.  Pleaded no contest, no false claims, none of his accusers arrested, dude legit beat his wife; real stand up kind of guy! Urais/Bauer united again.

Or, we could just sign Fried or Burnes and trade for a #2.

It's just a bad argument. There is a PR hit with Chapman, but it's nothing compared to the ongoing PR hit that they'd get with Bauer.

And nobody said much about Marwin Gonzalez.

It is funny how different guys get perceived.

Cora-cheated but still likable.

Bregman-cheated and would be unlikable even if he didn't.

Marwin pre 2017: 90 OPS+

Marwin 2017: 146 OPS+

Marwin after 2017: 83 OPS+

Bregman in 2016 116 OPS+ (rookie year)

125 OPS+ in 2017

157 in 2018-2019

122 OPS+ 2020>>>

So why more concern about Bregman?

Fair question.  Altuve and Bregman were the big stars on that team and I think they shouldered a lot of the blame because of that.  And Bregman just seems unlikable, rightly or wrongly.

So I can't say there's much logic behind it.

So I can't say there's much logic behind it.

Bregman's favorite ballplayer at one time was Pedroia and his best friend is Blake Swihart. However, when it came to naming his current dogs, he didn't choose any Sox names (Jeter and Koufax).

This is what Bregman said about the sign stealing: "I am really sorry about the choices that were made by my team, by the organization, and by me. I have learned from this and I hope to regain the trust of baseball fans."

Is he the only player to vaguely admit to wrongdoing? Most others acted like they didn't partake. They smoked, but "didn't inhale."

Also, the allegations weren't just about the trash can banging, but also potential buzzers in 2018 after Cora was gone.
