This will be fun.  Lets put ourselves on record with our BOLD....or not so bold predictions.

1. The ghost of John Henrys past posses his body. Sox sign Tanner Scott/Jack Flaherty/Max Fried/Danny Jansen/A.J. Minter

2. The big 4 will not be traded, and two start the year in Boston

3. Masataka Yoshida will NOT be traded.

4. The Red Sox move up in the draft lottery and end up with the #4 pick in the MLB draft.

5. Nick Pivetta rejects the QO and signs with another team.

If the Sox go bold on bullpen -- as in overpay for Tanner Scott in a fierce bidding war -- then they stay away from longterming Burnes or Fried. But I'm good with Scott, and Jeff Hoffman, who wants to start (but who we know was an All-Star reliever in '24).

The other rotation pieces will be a Manaea reunion with Bailey, and a trade for a lefty -- but not Crochet...

... Ryan Weathers, 24, from Miami -- come on up!

You guys think Pivetta takes $45M/3 over $20M/1?

Guaranteed $45M -- even if you blow out a ligament trying not to break a finger smashing a big screen TV falling off your stationary bike?

Most of these elite athletes have elite confidence in themselves, but most are also smart enough to sign for twice as many millions of dollars... once they're pushing 30 years of age, that is.

If he had confidence, he's take the $20M, have a great year and then sign for $60M/3.

My bold predictions

1.) bres-slow finds a way to make a yoshida for Montgomery trade with Arizona work plus/minus cash or prospects

2.) we sign two free agent relievers and neither are  in the top 30 free agents lists.
3.) we sign a right handed power bat

4.) we trade for a back up catcher

5.) we select a rule 5 pitcher again this year.

1. One of the big 4 doesn't make it to BOS this season.

2. Kristian Campbell starts on Opening Day.

3. Tanner Houck is the Opening Day starter.

4. Trevor Story doesn't have an IL stint in 2025.

5. Meidroth gets 200 PA's in BOS this year.

He'll get more than 45M.

I think there's a chance he gets more than 3 years to, and but more than 4 would certainly start to surprise me a little.

Wacha got 3 years and $50 mill guaranteed.

Not sure Pivetta would get any more than that, in fact I'm not sure why he would even get that much.

2, 3, and 5 feel right. I've been banging the Pivetta rejection drum since last week - every noise coming out from your Passan's et al is that there is a lot of interest in him. Weird to me, but there you go.

Masa isn't likely tradable now, but how I wish we could move on from his contract.

While I think the chance of one of the big 4 getting trade is unlikely, I wouldn't be shocked to see Mayer go.

Atlanta is reported talking to him. Maybe Atlanta thinks lightening will strike twice

I hope all our ex-players go to the NL and have career years. Just don't do it in the AL.

Maybe we trade yoshida to yoshida and he wins a gold glove???

I wish I could go back in time and predict Soto to the Sox.  Now THAT would be bold but we don't like in that world.

This is a lot like what was said about Jake Arrieta when he was still in Baltimore (and I compared Pivetta to on this board back in 2020).

It seems like a huge stretch to expect from Pivetta, who is now some. 4 years older than Arrieta when he had his sudden meteoric rise…

1.  The Red Sox acquire their new ace -Sandy Alcantara.

2.  Masataka Yoshida becomes a 2.0 fWAR DH, placing him in the top 7 in the league.  Larry still wants him traded ;)

3. Tanner Houck is worth 5.0 fWAR.

4. Ceddane Rafaela wins the Gold Glove for a CF and cuts his strike outs down to 25%  while drawing walks 8% of the time.

5. The Sox sign Juan Soto.  Go big or go home…

Because it’s not a rarity when Pivetta pitches 130 IP in a season?

i would have rather had Wacha for that than Pivetta at all.

My 5 predictions (not my wish list)

1. We sign Tanner Scott at $50M/3. (Closer: check/ LHP: check)

2. We sign Jack Flaherty at $70M/3. (No QO draft pick loss)

3. We sign Clay Holmes at $20M/2.

4. We sign Danny Jansen at 8M/1 with $6M option for 2026 and $1M buyout. (Bridge to Teel)

5. We trade Abreu for Jhoan Duran. (Beef up the pen and make room for Anthony)

2022-2024 averages:

Pivetta 156 IP 2.2 bWAR 1.8 fWAR

Wacha 143 IP 3.1 bWAR 2.5 fWAR

Pivetta has delivered about 10% more innings.

Wacha has delivered about 40% more value.

Pivetta also was seen as a guy who could have a dominant 2024 because of his strong 2023 second half. It just didn't happen. He just has never really put it together.

Unless he's sent back to the GCL, he's not getting a BB rate of 8%. C'mon man! That's the most bold take of all.

It's more likely that Soto is playing home games in BOS.

Has a player ever increased his BB rate (full season to full season) 4 fold? I'm guessing very little if ever.

But, it's certainly a BOLD take so I gotta respect it.

There are bold predictions and there are Wild Ass Pollyanna predictions.

Pivetta has had several 12-18 start stretches over his career, where he looks like a solid #2/3 SP'er, but yes, he has never put together a full solid season as a SP'er.

I just get a sneaky feeling he will turn down the QO and have that season, elsewhere.

That's the 'snakebit' feeling.
