I think both reality and the situation requires patience through April/May to see if Devers shoulder, Pivetta's flexor, Romy's wrist and any other situation arises, with one exception. I would shop MLB, even MiLB, very hard right now for a serviceable SS , probably a utility IF'er on a good team. Payroll should not be an issue, and if JH made it one, shame on him. As Moon says, there will be some out there. DFA Hamilton as needed.

Reassess by July 1 and definitely offer up the 1 year guys and try to get a MiLB player or two who is maturing a little to spend August/September as a platoon or direct fill-in for the experience and next year(s) roster. 1 pitcher and a super utility guy who can cover 3 IF positions. Is Brock Holt's son old enough yet, or Pedey's ?

Excuse me. Aren't you one of several on talksox who says the Sox should have kept Turner, a good righty bat, after last year? Why do you want to dump O'Neill, who is a righty bat, the best bat on the team so far, a pretty decent rightfielder, and 28 years old?

No, I did not want us to re-sign Turner.

Yes, I want to trade O'Neill rather than get nothing for him, as he signs somewhere else, this coming winter. (Plus, we could re-sign him, if JH opens his wallet.

If we are in the race, at the deadline, I may change my mind. (I am not for trading him, now.)

Agree. Extend O’Neill.

Not like the Sox have an abundance of RHH Gold Glove corner outfielders with power ready to step in…

I'd be fine with extending him (and Pivetta,) but with JH's tight wallet, I doubt that is being discussed.

If not, we should trade him.

And where does Anthony play?

And where does Anthony play?

LF: Duran

CF: Anthony

RF: O'Neall

4th: Rafaela

or

CF: Rafaela/Duran

I think abreau could end up being the second best of our outfielders.

If he does, then it's a great problem to have. We could trade Duran, Rafaela or the newly extended O'Neill. Anthony is the keeper.

You’re saying that while he’s playing at the peak of his performance. Very silly. Dude is injured a lot and couldn’t crack 100 wRC+ the last 2 years.

So the idea with all these trades is to find some GM willing to pay more than you are are for certain players, and/or who have players that you judge worth more than their previous teams are willing to pay. To make this work, all you need is a GM who is both better versed in economics and also a better judge of baseball talent than other GMs.

How's that been working out the last five years or so?

Exactly, and this guy has only had ONE season that he has played 100 games. Extend?🤭🙈🤮

All the cranky old egotistical umpires who aren't good enough to actually play big league baseball should keep showing the impartiality explicit in their profession by calling strikes blatantly out of the zone and banging Casas. They'll show that impudent young unproven big mouth. How dare he have the audacity to analyze his craft.

They've frisked a lot of young punks. Enjoy your veal, McCluskey.

Nobody is saying extend for 7 years and $147M.

is this the worst lineup in Sox history? Pretty close and certainly since pre-Yaz.

RED SOX (8-7): Duran LF, Reyes 2B, O’Neill RF, Casas 1B, Dalbec 3B, Yoshida DH, Wong C, Rafaela CF, Hamilton SS

Probably RF. O’Neil’s best position is LF…

That would force Duran to CF or a trade.

The best might be...

LF Duran (Refsnyder)

CF Anthony (Rafaela)

RF O'Neill (Abreu)

It’s a one day lineup covering for injuries. It’s only the worst lineup in Sox history if you think Sox history started in 2024…

Point?

Duran has worked out offensively but he’s simply not a good outfielder. I’ve been advocating moving Duran for pitching for months.

O’Neill-Rafaela-Anthony could be the future…

Man did you ever climb on board the O'Neill Express...

come on, now. Yes, it's due to injuries--but let's also be real here...this is April 14 and a team about to face a great lefty (which naturally the Sox will win 18-3) and Dalbec is 0-12, 7 Ks and you got minor leaguers occupying lineup spots. I call them as I see them...this is not a very good roster, no depth if you want to cover for the Story, Devers injuries.

I’d still be ok with a 3-4 year extension. If he was doing all the things you think he needs to, he’d never settle for one that short…

You'd probably have to go back to late 2012 to find a Sox lineup as bad as this.

Right, September callup lineups...but this is this early in the season..this is significant. And indictment on Sox roster.

Oh I am the biggest Dalbec Detractor out there.

But Tyler Anderson is a great lefty? His career ERA+ is 105. If he was on the Sox, we’d be complaining about how he got overpaid for having one good season. You know, the way Angels’ fans are complaining about him…

In his last 37 PAs Dalbec has 1 hit and 24 Ks. Bad ratio.
