I personally am thinking on going on the IL list for the season.

I might also go on the IL (Indifferent List). Previously called the DL (Disinterested List).

He missed last year and no one signed him as a free agent.

No one signed Elvis Andrus, either. Why is Breslow not on this? Does someone in the Sox org hate Elvis?

Is Elvis Andrus actually available? If he is I would LOVE to see him added to the roster. Casas, Grissom, Andrus, Devers..... that's decent and competitive not amazing and great...but decent-. Valdez can platoon and give them a day off here and there.

Posted
Devers is in the first year of a 10 year extension paying him $313.5 million. Who's going to take that on for us, especially with him missing games with nagging shoulder pain?

Some teams get stupid in spending...kinda the opposite we are doing. But all hypothetical... if you could would you dump him?

If another team would take his whole contract? Afraid I'd have to, yes.

I agree with all that for sure... and yes the pitching era has been great- I just doubt it's as good as the numbers show so far and suspect time will expose that sooner than later.

I think everyone on talksox, including me, shares your suspicion. To borrow moonslav's slant on things, the defense right now is frighteningly bad and that alone could--and already has--undercut the pitching.

Yeah- Houck was not on his game for sure.... but those bobbled and screwed up double play opportunities in the first inning had to really shake him moving forward throughout the game. That can't feel good for a young pitcher- on a big stage seeing those blunders behind you.... so yes for sure I'd be willing to try a 3 X 3 rotation.... realistically we are a bad team no matter what likely.

I'm afraid I feel the same way. Unless of course we add a reasonably ok-ish SS, and Devers defense can be ok and we are somewhere in the middle of the division by all star break- maybe you see someway John 18:10-11, & 35-36

10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

I've been waiting for Cora to put himself on the IL.

At least Cora doesn't have to pay to watch the crapshow - they pay him.

Knowing Cora, this has to be killing his insides.

For sure! I mean anyone who has a shred of pride, competitiveness, love for baseball... it has to be painful to be part of roster like this.

Either that or he's just biding his time until the end of the year and his contract. He tried to speak up about the need for upgrades and he saw how it went. Not much you can do. Just keep cashing those paychecks and looking after your family.

It's a lot to ask of a manager to try and cobble together a winner, when about $100M of your $180M budget is on the IL or about to be.

I'm not making excuses for Brez or JH. Our depth sucks, and depth should not be very costly. But, asking Cora to do the impossible is tough.

Last night's line-up had Reyes 2nd, Oh few April Dalbec 5th, sub .600 Yoshida 6th, Wong 7th, sub.550 Rafaela 8th and AAAA DHam 9th. What were his options? Romy or Valdez?

The sham goes on.

Agreed 100%. There is nothing a manager is going to do with Dalbec and crew on the infield like last night.

IMO, unless the upper brass fully commits to investing heavily in filling the holes in our 26 man roster for 2025, I think Cora bolts the Sox. I'm not sure he can believe any promises they may make or have already made to him. (I wouldn't.)

I like Cora, a lot. I do not think he is a negative on this team.

I like Breslow, so far. The Gio signing was not what I would have done, but it did look like a better gamble that Richards/Kluber/Perez I & II/Wacha/Hill.

I'm not on the side of those hoping JH sells the team, either, but he is wearing my patience thin.

I think DD & Bloom may have helped put together a very good core of everyday players for the Sox of 2025 and beyond, but it may not be enough, if we don't fill some holes. The talk of the lack of young pitching prospects is scary as hell, and something that has been part of the Sox organization since Lester, yet we have won twice under those same circumstances. I also think the core of Bello, Crawford, Houck, Whitlock (Pivetta, if extended) and Wink is better than any 5 homegrown pitcher group in a long time. So, what is the problem?

1. Big gaps at key positions.

2. Defense sucks

3. Poor choices on big ticket additions.

(not in any order)

I can't write off Brez for swinging and missing on Gio, and he basically had to shed Sale, Urias and Dugo's deals to afford him.

I'm not writing off Cora, either.

Unlike many, I cannot write off the owner who brought us 4 rings, either. I went more than 30 years dying for just one ring. Maybe, I'm have more patience than others, but I still have a sliver of faith, JH will spend bigly, aagin.

But man, they still have a lot of work to do. What a mess.

Good post- and it's all preference. I watch and follow a team to enjoy the entire season. Rings for me don't matter that much- if they have a winning season and just make it to the playoffs... I probably had very fun and entertaining 160 games.

You can buy, build, manage, coach... a winning season. Winning a World Series takes a lot of luck and timing on top of that. So to me I don't get too excited about not winning it all.. in any sport. But choosing a losing season is tough to swallow.

If I could choose:

A. 5 winning seasons and making the playoffs twice, but no world series win, or

B. 1 World Series win and 4 losing, basement seasons...

I'm picking A every time. I'm probably in the minority with that- but that would be my preference.

He left the building.

Trading Jansen, Martin and O'Neill now would be throwing in the towel on April 13. Are you all sure that is what you want to do ?

Jansen- yes.. the others, no.

No doubt. More than Monty would have provided, for sure.

The deadline or mid July is more likely a time frame

I’m picking B and it’s not close.

I think we can do this:

Win a ring every 6-7 years and compete for the playoffs in the majority of seasons, without needing to be a top 5-7 spender. If it turns out we need to spend top 2-5, then I hope JH can splurge when the time is right.

That'd be great- as long as we maintain being competitive for most games... which is why I picked A. Definitely a scenario where there is not a right or wrong answer.... interesting to see how we all would look at those options differently.

I can understand wanting the A option, but I lived that one for over 30 years, more or less, and it sucked never winning a ring.

I don't want to go back.

This should not be real hard to achieve:

7 years

1 ring or 2 WS losses

2-3 other playoff appearances

3-4 playoff misses with no more than 2 last place finishes

This might be min for me, out of 7 years:

1 ring + 2 playoffs

or

4 years of strong playoff teams (maybe 2 WS losses)
