He's not pocketing any money, it's his money. He just doesn't wanna spend it.

That's pocketing the money.

You can't pocket money that's already in your pocket.

Wrong. He got the money and kept the money. That's pocketing the money.

See these two acceptable sentences from dictionary.com:

When we have to pay so much for basic goods and services, someone at the top is pocketing the profits.

Others are essentially pocketing the cash, stowing it in rainy-day funds or using it to cope with higher spending requirements.

It's the same thing.

"Pocketing" does have ambiguity because it refers to both putting it in and keeping it in. I'm trying for a clean semantic solution here. In vain, I realize, but such is life.

I will go out on a long thin limb here and predict that Kenley Jansen will be of little use or value to the Red Sox this season . But he will get to POCKET about $16 MM of JH's hard earned, tax paid money

That's what I think is the correct use, but in all fairness, my English is half-decent, but I am ESL, so maybe it's a language thing?

English is a hilariously effed up language, it's not you.

If I was from England, I might use second-person singular...

... but I'm not single nor the first to note that nobody remembers a singles hitter.

Sox will find someone to take Janssen off our hands but we will need to retain a large chunk of his salary

Pay more salary for better prospects please.

I think if Jansen is traded it should be at the deadline. Sometimes a closer can be traded for a good haul at the deadline.

If he's pocketing it because they're making more money by not spending money then you're justifying not spending money to make more money. Yet, there are plenty of franchises that make more money by spending more money.

I think Henry is just legit suffering from PTSD after the David Price signing plus draft Ball/Groome and is just allergic to spending money or drafting pitchers.

Investing 101. Gotta invest money to make money.

...and the team getting him will owe about $5-6M, not $16M.

You're good. Your English is better than the majority of this board IMO.

Is Henry investing in the franchise if the money is sitting in his pocket?

In today's Globe, there's an article asking why the Sox aren't going after any other starting pitchers after Giolito's injury.

"The ATM's closed," one agent joked.

Unpocket that money, John!

I doubt Joely has impressed enough to get a slot on the 40.

I think we should add Cron and keep Dalbec in AAA. (DFA Jacques.)

Are we to assume they already told Joely he wasn't going to make the staff?

If so, who are the lefty relievers that we're keeping instead?

There must be more than one; after all, there are no southpaws in the starting rotation -- so I must ask:

Is this pitching staff as constructed one that looks like it can go deep in the postseason?

Even if Joely wasn't a lefty, I'd rather have him on the 40 than 2-4 others there, now.
