It shows that he thinks on a much higher level than others and may have tendency to talk above others. Just because he fixed that one situation doesn't mean there isn't more to learn IMO.

Luckily Sam is there to guide him along.

He's holding him at arms length so that he can dump him after a bad move or two IMO.

Still, that's a different reaction to how he treated Bloom, day one.

Sometimes you just get that feeling before it even happens, and you can’t find in any analytics, or BTV, or even the Eye Test.

How do we know? He wasn't posting here in 2019, was he?

You're definitely being the aggressor here. You won't let up about this.

Didn't Red say his dislike of Bloom had to do with the Tampa Bay North thing?

This is accurate, however. I always thought the "tampa north" branding was representative of that analytical mindset heavily employed in Tampa. Breslow is of a similar mind.

They're more alike than they're different.

In the analytics area I'm sure they're a lot alike. We'll see how alike they are in their approach to constructing an MLB team. Bloom left a lot to be desired in that area.

A good plan poorly executed looks an awful lot like a s*** plan. The Sox might think Breslow is just the Bloom that can actually do what Bloom said he was going to do. Or not.

So, your "feeling" is Breslow is okay?

I'm just tryiung to get a position statement and a reason. I'm being very polite.

He told us so many times, so I believed him.

Unless there's proof on this forum, it's all just meaningless bluster.

But he said yesterday in post #414:

Very simple. I didn’t want to go the Tampa way. The Red Sox won 4 championships by not doing it the Tampa way.

Bloom did in fact come from Tampa. Breslow did not.

So Red gave a reason, but it wasn't good enough?

I missed that post. Yes, that answers my Q.

It’s always bugged him, because I said I was against the Bloom hiring from day 1, and now it bugs him, because I don’t feel the same way against Breslow. When I said the Tampa way I was referring more about the payroll than anything else. 🙈

Reading some stories today about Chris Young, the former pitcher, who GM'ed Texas to a WS title , also an Ivy League grad ( Princeton) . Some similarities to Breslow's background, except for height (6'-10" to CB's 6'-0") , and same age bracket (43+-) .

The key point I took away and alluded to earlier is the background and relatability as a former MLB player . This was one of the factors Bloom did not have , as seen in the relationship with Cora. Whether that has a positive effect on signing free agents, or in assessing trades ( outside of BTV) will be seen over the next few months. I do think Craig will need to put Cora on the spot for best using the roster they assemble. Under the current arrangement , Cora should not be able to blame Breslow for any performance shortcomings that originate with lack of focus, attention to fundamentals, etc. And Breslow/Cora better get a pitching coach that would have recognized that Brasier needed a cutter .

If Breslow's advanced intellect turns out to turn off 20 something Dominican born young players, well then that's on him. Maybe he does speak Spanish.

I read today that working as assistant GM in Chicago, he basically did his job from his home.

I found that odd. I have no issues with him in his new job. Working from home....?

He won’t be working from home anymore here

I imagine it was like a lot of businesses - the pandemic shifted to a remote environment, and then it just stayed that way.

I remember Chris Young as an All-Ivy Center for Princeton basketball.

It doesn't bug me at all. I did not see the post that explained your reasoning.

You can continue misrepresenting my thoughts and positions. I'm not going to take the bait. Feel free to get in the last word.

Well, consider that Breslow and family lived in Newton , MA , not Chicago. He now lives closer to his work, so may drop in once in awhile.

It’s also a different position, he didn’t have the main gig in Chicago. He will probably spend a lot more days in the office in Boston than he did in Chicago.

I don’t care if he does it from the moon, as long as he does it right…

Going into last offseason, the Red Sox' old CBO from Yale had two sure things in his starting rotation: Pivetta as a #5 and Bello as #4 (with the potential to be a #3).

The old guy studied Classics -- books written over 3,000 years ago (more years than even the combined ages of Jansen, Martin, Paxton, Kluber, Hill, and Richards).

The new guy studied molecular biophysics and biochemistry...

... here's where Britannica gives us hope: "Physics can be defined as the science of matter, motion, and energy" -- basics that inform pitching a baseball. "Chemistry deals with the composition of substances... the transformations they undergo, and the energy that is released or absorbed during these processes" -- basics that inform a big league roster and its interactions on the field, in the dugout and in the clubhouse.

Note: old guy struggled with both...

I'm not so sure Bello was a "sure thing" going into 2023. He had dealt with injuries and did not even start the season on the 26.

His first start was April 17th.
