Trading Duran for a pitcher certainly makes some sense team-building wise. Trading Kenley at this point would just be a salary dump.

Need to clear up CBT space so that they can extend Casas!

Part of me understands it but part of me struggles to believe Duran is worth that much in a trade. Granted, Snelling is 20 and Head even younger and neither has much experience above A ball. (Snelling has pitched 17 IP in AA; Head has never been). So it’s not like these players are sure things…

Seems like a lot for Duran, but like you said these guys are kinda far away. Teams are really valuing proximity.

BTV also accepts a 1 for 1 of Duran for King, but I don't see the Padres pulling the trigger on that.

Holy crap, enough about the joke.

And posters get mad a me for picking apart word choice over a baseball comment. Hmph...

Yeah I posted the Duran/King trade here and on BTV. One Padres’ fan commented to being very much in favor…

Really? I'd smash that trade button.

I have some pause, given the years of control difference and King’s very limited track record as a starter.

But that was the clear best one-for-one trade for Duran using the system at BTV…

For me, the Sox need another starting option with Giolito going down. Having control for '25 as well is good enough for me. I don't see Duran as a long term fit on this roster.

If all goes according to plan, they are going to run out of OF spots when Anthony is ready:

LF Abreu/Refsnyder/Masa

CF Rafaela

RF Anthony

For now, with Ref's cracked toe, they'll prob stay with Duran-Ceddanne-Abreu/O'Neill, with Yoshi DH -- and keep assessing who they like, who they keep, and who's a creep (oh, wait, Dugie's gone!).

It's just easier to Ceddanne than his four-syllable, Devers-sounding last name.

Has Cora given him a nickname yet?

That's fair.

My issues with King are that he only has 2 years left (for now), and he has never started more than 9 games in a season and never pitched more than 104 innings.

It is an interesting trade in that it sends both players back home, with RI native and BC aum King coming to Boston and SoCal native and Long Beach State alum Duran returning to southern California. (Although admittedly, Los Angeles or Anaheim would be better fits for a true homecoming for Duran.)

I think he's got a nice SD vibe to him. It's only 90 minutes away from where he grew up.

I don’t get this acquisition from the Padres’ viewpoint. The unloaded one year of Soto to get 2 years of Michael King and 2 years of Cease? And did so at a time when they have no outfielders?

It's a strange one alright. Which makes me think they must have more moves coming.

I'd be very tempted by MVP's trade scenario:

BTV accepts

Duran

for

Robby Snelling - SP

Dillon Head - OF

While I've no doubt part of it will be about shedding salary, there's not much point having a high cost, premium closer on the team for one year. Some teams will give up a handy piece or two for that.

All I did was say what the actual tense was and you then flew off the handle, calling me humorless because I didn’t appreciate this upper class joke clearly aimed at English Department chairpersons circles you hang out in. I didn’t try to pick any fight. That was and still is (

Oh and I kept asking why you were responding to me when your joke was actually challenged by someone else who even proposed a wager that you have been avoiding.

I also haven’t resorted to your level of childish insults. I will admit it’s odd for me to be the mature one. But here we are.

I will admit that this repeated admission that this joke has never gotten anything but laughs is tough to believe. Outside of jad questioning it and my one little response that you couldn’t handle, it appears to have fallen flat here..

At this point I think we should go back to the Bauer conversation.

Not to mention we badly need to trade a lefthanded hitter at some point.

Can't get much back without eating some of his $16 million salary.

Best to save him for a possible deadline trade, IMHO.

Who knows, we may actually "compete" this year?

Braves sign Adam Duvall to a 1 year -3 million deal. Guess that was too rich for John Henry

At least signing Bauer would show an effort to win, this year.

The third best pitcher from the Baystars? Sox need another 5th starter?

As well as an effort to be insane.

Sign Trevor Bauer while they're making a Netflix doc - what could go wrong?

As it stands the Red Sox rotation is a house of cards.

(Please refrain from 'ace' jokes.)

Hey maybe they need to cast a villain. Think Henry wants to play that part?
