Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our TalkSox. Will Breslow sign a # 1 ? , a # 2 ? , a pair of 3's and a 4? Will John Henry make enough in bitcoin to afford it all ? And what happened to Max Bialystock? Is he okay? Will he return ? Will Moon and Old Red ever resolve their differences ? And what about notin ? Tune in tomorrow for the next episode of Days of our TalkSox.

In all my years of listening, and participating in talk shows, and being on many, many, many forums, and message boards I have Never seen, or experienced anything like this, and after showing many of the tit for tats, and I know you are, but what am I to other people they all say the same thing. Where a couple of posters analyze every single letter of every single word, and see if it matches their interpretation, and if it doesn’t right, or wrong they go off on it even telling the other side then they know what the other person is trying to say more than they do. Sad, but true at the same time.

Saddest part is you post this as if you’re not one of the most active participants in that type of behavior. You, like all of us, have every right to act childish out here. That’s everyone’s (least popular) prerogative. But at least own it…

One source has the Sox under the tax line by $37M, for whatever that is worth.

In theory, that’s likely enough for…

Monty or Snell and ______

This should not be on the realistic thread!

What about a trade for cease instead???

He’s only got 2 years, but I’d kick the tires.

I’d rather trade for Luzardo.

Why not keep the prospects and just sign Monty or Snell?

Stroman or Imanaga would improve the team but would still be a punt in my eyes.

i'm with you on all that. not sure what it'd take to get Luzardo, but i'd trade about any prospect other than Teel and Anthony.

So, as it stands, now, I see it like this:

SP: Sale, Bello, Giolito, Pivetta, Crawford

RP: Jansen, Martin, Winckowski, Schreiber

Houck, Whitlock, Slaten, Mata (out of options)

C: Wong/ McGuire

1B: Casas

2B: Reyes/ EValdez

SS: Story

3B: Devers

LF: Duran/ Refsnyder

CF: Rafaela/ Abreu

RF: O’Neill

DH: Yoshida

Me, too.

Mayer, Mata and Perales

Keep Miguel Bleis.

A boring perennial fifth-place team with barely the twinkle of stars needs to hang on to the one guy in the system described as having five-tool potential.

He's 19, missed a season from surgery, and is ready to break out. No MLB team is going to trade any promising young pitcher for unproven damaged goods, anyway.

BTV us, man...

Luzardo - surplus value $63.3mill with three seasons of control remaining…

Mayer ($44.5), Perales ($3.5), and Mata ($2.3) is just as short at $50.3 mil as it looks in real life.

BTV accepts Mayer ($44.5), Teel ($17.8), and Luis Guerrero ($1.5) for a total of $63.8. It looks more realistic as well, but I have no idea if Miami accepts…

Well a day after landing a starting pitcher the long faces don’t seem as long, and the sad puppy eyes don’t seem as sad. I said the Red Sox were working on something, and low, and behold a pitcher appears. It isn’t the big splash as many expected, but it’s a start. The funny thing is I’ve been the voice of optimism while everyone else on here has been all gloom, and doom. What a turn of events.

moderate overpay by the Marlins. Luzardo is 63.3 while Mayer (44.5), Mata (2.3) and Perales (3.5) come up to 50.3.

sorry...just now seeing that notin answered this.

In a very rare turn, I’ve also been a voice of optimism. Also occasionally injected reality with how little other teams have done…

I agree 100%, but I just don’t see your suggested fix although a good one happening.

To me this signing indicates one of two things:

a) Craig is working through an intelligent and methodical plan to upgrade the team while remaining fiscally prudent.

or

B) Henry has become a cheap bastard and signings like this are as good as we can expect.

:D

I’m guessing all of the above to some degree. At least they signed a pitcher for more than $10M.

I was patient and optimistic for many years of the Henry regime. I don't feel the need to be so any more, not after the Betts trade and the accumulating pile of sub-.500 teams that have been foisted on us.

it's "b". and i think it's a combination of things as to why -1) several failed high-dollar free agency signings like Crawford, Panda, Price, etc.; 2) seeing teams like the Rays win on the cheap, and 3) hubris.

If we look at the other teams in the AL East:

-Orioles and Rays finished 23 and 21 games ahead of us, respectively, so they probably didn't need to do much to stay better than us.

-Yankees added Soto and Verdugo.

I get your points. One poster earlier was questioning why the fans seem more upset this year, and I think that an easy question to answer, which you did. Mookie was a kick in the teeth, and the current stretch of being a losing last place in the Div team has gone on to long, and fans want to see the team get back to being competitive, and in the postseason again now. Saying the team might be better in 2026 is not good enough.

I hated Dugo going to the Yankees, and I’ll say again I think he’ll come back to bite us in the ass, and haunt us. He’s got things to prove, and he’s playing for a contract, and sticking it to the Red Sox will be icing on the cake.

Giolito might turn out to be a nice value signing. Or he might turn out to be the next Corey Kluber at twice the price.

True the reclamation project could go either way.
