In order to get Chapman on the roster, they'd have to trade Masa, Devers or Casas.

Or Duran, which they have explored…

They could trade Duran, but that would have NO bearing on adding Chapman to the Red Sox.🙈🤭🤮

I don't think that I would trade Duran until knowing what he really is capable of doing. He has the potential to do things that no one else on the roster can do. Yoshida is the dh and gets some time in the outfield. I don't think that Devers goes anywhere on this team but third. If they are really concerned about the defense, they have to have someone at second who can make the plays and a better catcher. if they don't sign a free agent pitcher, I think we need to settle in and live with what we got.

It’s more of a “should” than a “will”.

I will say the 6 year $150mill deal MLBTR predicted for Chapman looks extremely far from likely, and there is a chance he becomes affordable. Especially since there has been almost no buzz on him all off-season…

We’ve seen the extremes of Duran’s offense the last two seasons. The only real issue I have with him that he’s really only capable of playing LF. If he could hand centerfield, either he or Rafaela could become expendable.

Sort of makes me wonder why he was ever moved off second base…

There was a time when Ellsbury was a negative CF'er on D, but he grew into a good one.

Maybe, Duran can, someday.

Does signing cron mean that Dalbec is history

Dalbec will be history when he's history. He's been surviving like a cockroach for a while now.

Chapman to the Giants for 3yr $54mill. That’s a dropped ball by Breslow…

Not a dropped ball at all. The Red Sox already have a 1B, and a 3B who won’t be moving anywhere anytime soon. Another Bellinger contract too with 2 opt outs.

Yeah why improve the team defense at two positions with one move? And get the RHH bat Breslow has been supposedly searching for all off-season in that same move?

Keep talking about adding Chapman is Nothing more that a brain fart. Which part of Raffy, and Casas being kept at their positions for the foreseeable future don’t you understand? Just like another brain fart who keeps talkin about making Raffy the backup 1B. Not happening anytime soon. Even the contract that Chapman got is way to expensive for the big spenders that the Red Sox currently are.🙈🤭

I knew they were never going to add him, but it was definitely a move they needed. The only real downside is it pushed Yoshida to a full time OF role. And I’d take a weak LF over weak corner INF spots.

And there are several journalists out there who think Devers’ days at 3b are numbered and he is a 1b/DH in the making, if not a full time DH…

The Red Sox now pretty much have a $100M DH. Devers at some point might move to 1B, but Not for the foreseeable future with Casas already there. You want to make Raffy a $300M DH? Once again Raffy, and Casas are set at their positions for the foreseeable future like it, or not. Like I’ve said before posters on here I think worry more about the Red Sox D than the Red Sox themselves warranted, or not.

Is this also a dropped ball for the other 28 teams who didn’t sign him as well?

... unless the Red Sox in their current business plan intentionally fail to offer fair market value to lock up Casas longterm. His words about Sox offers so far: "nothing enticing."

Uh oh, sounds like we've got another young man ungrateful for the opportunity of the Fenway Experience (discounted student tickets, 7th-inning singalongs, 40-degree rainy nights, enemy fans all over the stands)...

When can we get three meh prospects for him.

He wasn’t a good 2b and they wanted to utilize his athleticism in the OF.

Sox don’t have the budget for that. Need to use it on SP.

Given the current philosophy trending within the FSG, I would not put it past Breslow to trade Devers at some point during his tenure.

Yes for the limited few with a third baseman ranked in the bottom three and that have the money (not budget, money) to easily afford him…
