I'm pretty sure a lot of Sox fans will be checking the box scores to see if Ort can improve his control and command with Seattle.

Brasier's renaissance this year after going to the Dodgers was displeasing. That can't have helped Dave Bush's chances of staying.

Absolutely. It sure doesn't make the pitching coaches look very capable .

Red Sox lose Kaleb Ort to the Mariners via waivers

The Mariners have a recent history of rehabilitating relievers off the scrap heap, including Paul Sewald, who has four postseason saves this year ... for the Diamondbacks.

Gabe Speier, Tayler Saucedo and Trevor Gott are other recent examples.

Kaleb Ort may struggle ... or not.

Proof that mid-market clubs don't have enough interns to masquerade as posters on other clubs' fan forums.

How many franchises would hire a 68-year-old intern?

Perhaps there's a chance for a 68-year-old who returned to college this fall to study the business of sports.;)

That would be like hiring Squiggy…

Wrong. They have won the ALCS like 7 times in the last 12 years or something.

WRONG!

One out of 5 teams does not make a division superior.

The AL East and AL West were virtually even in head-to-head competition for eight regular seasons 2014-21 before the AL East dominated the AL West in the regular season the last two years with a 188-127 (.597) cumulative record in the head-to-head competition.

Despite its regular-season domination, the AL East is 0-11 against the AL West the past two postseasons.

Feel free to draw conclusions ... or no conclusion at all.:D

I drew my conclusion. The Astros are kings and cheaters. The rest of the AL West has sucked or been meh.

The AL East has had just about every team be very good to great, at various moments in the past 14, 17 or 20+ years.

I guess Bush never thought of having Brasier try a cutter. Wow!

The Red Sox' weatherlytics dept. attributes Braiser's success to LA's smog gravitating his pitches, as opposed to Boston, where it rained for four straight months and his grips slipped.

But Kennedy promises they're looking to interview new meteorologists who can teach pitchers to throw more meteors.

This actually sounds believable.

it has now been about a month since Bloom has been let go and the only reports about a possible that I have heard is about guys turning DOWN an interview. Not promising in my view.

How many are known to have turned down an interview, not counting Cora.

Only Sam The Sham knows.

Good one.

I'm sure more know. You forgot to mention JH's right-handed man, who is "in" on everything now.

Former Rangers exec Jon Daniels turned one down per MLBTR. Ditto Marlins’ exec Mike Hill.

Former MLB outfielder and NH native Sam Fuld is the current favorite, although no one seems to know of he has actually interviewed

Okay. If true, we are up to one.

Any more?

Mike Hill

Apparently you replied while I was adding him…

So, maybe/probably two.

Man, it's the end of the world as we know it!

MLB Trade Rumors offers its take on the Red Sox offseason:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/offseason-outlook-boston-red-sox-13.html

Some good stuff and a nice summary of what we have and need.

The ending...

Despite all the uncertainty, there are many things to like about this Boston club. They just went 78-84 in the toughest division in the league, with a run differential of -4. It would only take modest improvements to get them into contention for a playoff spot.

Perhaps a new hire would like to take a year to get more looks at young players like Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, Anthony, Teel, Mayer and Yorke. There’s plenty of money coming off the books after 2024, with Sale, Jansen, Martin, Pivetta and Verdugo all potential free agents. Maybe some of those guys end up getting moved this winter, freeing up roster space for younger guys. They need help at catcher and in the middle infield, but there aren’t obvious solutions available in free agency and the Sox have possible long-term solutions in the pipeline.

All things considered, the ship isn’t in terrible shape. But as of right now, it’s unclear who is steering it, which direction they’re going or how fast they’ll be allowed to head there. There’s plenty of fog on the horizon but perhaps things will clear up soon.

I was told yesterday that we didn't need to waste money at 2b?!?!?

SO the Sox have 69 million to spend, hypothetically. If you assume they will go over the luxury tax and are willing to go up against the next threshold that's their top budget. Probably need a few million to account for promotions, trades etc etc. Call it 60 million.

Depending on how you spend that money and other transactions you make, that $60 million grows. If you're signing Yamamoto and Aaron Nola (for example) you can make the argument to trade away Nick Pivetta, and if you end up trading for a guy like Soto, or some other move that involves moving Verdugo that's another $9 million off the books. Also, I think there's a good chance that the Sox non-tender Urias. Now you have more like $80.00 to play with.

From watching Nola in the playoffs, I'd stay away from him; his curve could be crushable vs. AL Beasts -- and for the cost, I'd rather the Sox sign Lorenzen (as a #3), who has similar stuff.

Montgomery is the prize lefty after Snell... but his price could rise in the World Series.

Back in reality, they sign one nice starter and that's about it.

Montgomery's contract has soared the end of 2023. I think he's going to get overpaid.

Montgomery was worth 2.1 bWAR, which is less than Pivetta (2.4) and Crawford (2.2), a couple pitchers that are not universally accepted as part of the 2024 rotation.

The grass is always greener…

Most likely.

And probably not Nola nor Yamamoto. More likely Gray or Lorenzen…
