I don’t even think it’s an intelligence thing as often as it’s a luck thing.

There’s a lot of dumb kids who get away with a lot of s***. I have a lot of personal experience in this area.

Me, too. And I was lucky as hell, many times.

I'm pretty sure your 6,000 word posts are due to extensive use of greenies.

Never touched 'em.

(Not my drug of choice.)

The greenies used to be out in a bowl in the clubhouse mixed with M&Ms, circa 1960's , near the coffee and comp cigarettes

1. I was responding to others talking about Soto vs Tatis.

2. Soto does not need to be extended for the 2024 budget needed for pitching, and the trade I suggested included $10M fro the Padres.

3. I'd still rather have pitching than Soto, if it is an either or choice.

You spoke about "another lefty," so I pointed out Soto would be replacing one lefty (Dugo) with another. He would not be adding to our LHB numbers.

With hitters like Soto, you don’t get hung up on which side of the plate they hit from. When the Dodgers acquired Betts, they didn’t like balk and say “wait. Wouldn’t we be better off with a lefty?”

And you sure as hell do not avoid Soto because you already have Verdugo, Yoshida, Duran and Abreu.

That said, Soto would be awesome. But it’s not very likely…

Agreed. Plus, it would be via trade not mega signing for 2024, which was my point.

Trading Dugo ($10M arb) and a couple prospects for Soto plus $10M cash would not cost much for '24 for a major gain on O.

It's the extension that might kill us, someday.

I know Frank Robinson was a great hitter. But he hit right handed. I thought you were comparing Soto to lefties. I guess I misunderstood.

It happens. And sometimes misunderstanding is on the poster and not the reader. Essentially I was saying you do not avoid a hitter like Soto because of what side he hits from. He’s going to be a great one.

Probably similar to what I said before. But it’s all I got…

As Soto is only 24, they’re a lot of good hitting left in him. Even a 14 year extension only takes him to the same age the Sox signed 31yo David Price to.

Heck Soto could take a 5 year extension and still be one of the youngest and best free agents on the market when that expires…

Soto is going to be very well sought out. You aren't getting him for 1 yr of Verdugo.

That was not the trade, but I doubt we get his for Dugo, Rafaela and Drohan, which was the offer BTV accepted.

Geez, all Tomase would offer are Mayer, Anthony and Bello... because we'd rather trade our best young pitcher for another outfielder.

Technically it was Mayer or Anthony, plus Bello.

That’sa crazy price for one year $30mill of Soto…

For one year of Soto at $30mil, offers might not be as numerous as you expect…

Yoshida for Soto.

Obviously not going to happen. But the Sox just need to add on their equivalents of Verdugo and Wong.

Maybe Yoshida, Yorke and Hamilton?

Tomase is a dipshit.

Which Hamilton - Caleb, David or Alexander?

I think San Diego should get to make that choice. Probably won’t be Alexander as his trade value plummeted in 1803…

There was a resurgence for big Al in 2015, but I think that has waned by now.

He didn’t even get Comeback Player of the Year!

Kaleb Ort DFA'd.

Eddie Romero did what Bloom was unable to do.

Some think keeping Ort is why Bloom was fired.

(I have my ear on the pulse of Sox Nation, in placed nobody else goes.)
