Career fWAR:

Sale 45.4

Kluber 39.1

WS Rings:

Sale 1

Kluber 0

Jerseys Torn:

Sale 1

Kluber 0

Leader in W, SV, K: Sale

The only thing that Kluber is better is in wearing high socks.

Plus all of Kluber’s accomplishments have been with other teams. If Cora didn’t want to go with Sale the only guy who has actually pitched the last few years is Pivetta. In other words slim Pickens.

What in the wide, wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?

I can hear the argument for fWAR. But World Series rings? Jake Odorizzi has more WS rings than Kluber (and as many as Sale). Would you make him opening day starter?

What s difference does it make what team he accomplished it on?

Opening day starter doesn’t go to the longest tenured member of team. When the Sox acquired Pedro Martinez, I am pretty sure nobody said “We’re giving the opening day nod to Tim Wakefield, because he’s been here longer. Plus you won that Cy Young award with Montreal. Not sure that even counts.”

All I’m saying is Kluber at least has an impressive pitching resume. He does. His Cy Young awards still count even though he won them in Cleveland.

I think he is trying to say that Pivetta is the equivalent of the rodeo-star-turned-actor known for his roles in Dr. Strangelove and Blazing Saddles

“Go back and get a shitload of dimes!”

OMG is this now the standard announcing mode? Can't these guys STFU or if they're going to blather on, at LEAST talk about the game.

NESN needs to know that this is making it impossible to watch.

In an article on possible replacements for Edwin Diaz as Mets closer, MLB.com is already speculating, "Perhaps the Red Sox will be willing to part with Kenley Jansen..."

Ok, Mets, ready to deal for last year's NL saves leader? After spending half a billion dollars on free agents this offseason, what's a measly top prospect?

New York's #1 prospect, Francisco Alvarez is a catcher, and Boston sure could use one... but the Mets' #3 is another catcher, Kevin Parada, #36 on the MLB's Top 100. That position looks like a surplus for Cohen's contenders...

Can we at least lose a game before the fire sale starts?

Also the Mets have experienced closers Dave Robertson and Adam Ottavino already on the roster…

The answer is definitely yes.

But on BTV, my trade proposal of the NL saves leader for the Mets' second-best catching prospect (with a "below-average" arm) was met with a resounding Realty Check!

... which means it's the perfect deal in the unreality of Steve Cohen's checkbook offseason. Re. Robertson and Otto, you can tout the patchwork bullpen that the upstart Phillies rode into the '22 World Series all you want, but there's no way the New York Mets spent all that dough on big names this winter to rely on a little name with games in the balance.

I would try to get a pitcher back too on top of Parada, like Joel Diaz, maybe throw in a 40 man guy like Duran or Dalbec to have multiple players flowing both ways and make room in the 40.

I don’t seriously want this, but If I had more faith in this pitching staff staying healthy I’d love to move one of Houck/Whitlock to the bullpen and call up Mata. Closer by committee to begin until the best of that Schreiber/Martin/Houck/Mata/Whitlock takes the role.

Is Jansen a better option than the still-available Ken Giles or Zach Britton?

Also Robertson has 157 career saves and a fair amount of experience closing in New York.

I know the Mets have spent a lot, but Diaz himself was a long term commitment. In fact, most of their players were. They’ll be very much the same team in 2024, when everything returns to normal…

Why not expand the deal and do devers and Jansen for baty and whatever else the Mets have in their minor league system! (Especially pitching prospects)

We can't trade Duran, he's a better outfielder than Verdugo!

Recap from last night's Mexico WBC win from Boston Globe: "Jarren Duran entered the game as a defensive replacement for Verdugo in right field in the ninth inning."

Trade Devers...Dear God.

Houck needs to be in the bullpen after we get some starters back healthy

He seems like the perfect pitcher to assume Whitlock’s role as a 2-3 inning RP’er.

I’d put him there, now. Start a kid until a vet comes back.

Raffy back in the Red Sox lineup today. Glad to see he made it back from WBC in one piece.

Indeed.

Opening day is rapidly approaching!

The Mets went on a spending spree and roster makeover that cost them 0 top prospects. If they want to replace Diaz, they’ll either pay someone (Ken Giles?) or take on an expensive salary dump that doesn’t require unloading their Top 100 guys. And those deals will be out there…

I’m sure the Mets hang up just at the mention of Parada and long before Joel Davis and Jarren Duran get mentioned…

The Mets are being reimbursed for Diaz's 2023 salary. It's part of the rules surrounding the WBC.

But nobody seems to know if that will remove him from the payroll for luxury tax purposes.

And also do they get to keep the trumpet player?

The trumpet player will also be compensated for lost revenue and will receive the full discography of Herb Alpert on remastered CD's as a bonus.

CD? Is he being compensated in 1996?

Funny, no Duran sucks defensively. I have t given up on him he still might hit. But he’s expandable

And the Mets are at the Britton showcase. Not exactly a tough prediction.

If he looks half decent, I think we know who wins that bidding war…
