I don't think a single poster believes or has said we should not be winning more with the budget we have.

The disagreement- to some degree- is over how we got to this mess, and whether we should repeat the methodology that got us here in the first place, or not.

I'm not sure why we are going on an on about this.

Because this season was horrible and there wasn't much else to talk about.

Are there still posters saying DD totally decimated the farm or was that just a strawman construction?

We all do.

It's who we lay most of the blame on that we diverge.

That my friend would be the players.

Others blame Cora. Others Bloom. Others JH. Others various combinations of each.

All of the above plus the players. There was plenty of blame to go around. Like Kennedy said we all failed.

Don't forget the crybaby fans' failures, too!

Well, they were the main reason we did not reset.

No they’re not. Just like anyone who wanted to reset, they had no influence whatsoever.

If they did, the Sox fire sale would have happened in April when the white flags were flapping in their full glory…

I do not actually know what is meant by straw man? Do you think that the people on this forum who actually used the word decimated have finally come around or what? I sure hope so.

Has this been documented? who said such a thing and why? Do you have any written proof that it's the fans that have screwed this up? If you do then I say fire the fans. No one should be allowed in to Fenway Park without first signing a note saying that they forever support all decisions of the front office. As a token show of friendship the Red Sox will offer no one a contract for longer than two years as well as never signing a player who has reached the age of 30. All trades must be approved by the small group of loyal fans who are allowed in to the ball park.

A lot of things are a matter of perspective.

DD did decimate the farm system, but it turns out that farm system was a lot weaker than we thought. It’s the power of hindsight but most of those guys busted. That doesn’t mean the Sox didn’t really like those guys and had high hopes for him. Perhaps the REAL lesson here was we were due for a few years of suck no matter what.

In terms of it being the fans fault. That’s bs. Now could it be true? Idk maybe, but if it’s it’s still BS. I get that the FO cares about revenue, and disgruntled fans and a losing record will affect that, putting pressure on them to spend. But if you have a plan, and you believe in that plan, and you let a couple years of subpar success and whiney fans steer you off that plan then you’re too thin skinned for the job.

Exactly, and big bills at that.

But then 'loyal fans' or 'true fans' (i.e., those on this board and this board only and only a few of them) don't actually pay any bills. Rather they complain about the 'pink hats' who do.

You folks do know that this was just my weak attempt at humor right?

Are you going to splurge on the 10 dollar seats or what? I only got there once this year - it was a treat. If I lived closer to Portland, I would be a seasons ticket holder.

I have not heard anyone say that word in a long time.

Strawman is arguing against someone or something that does not even exist.

It would be like saying, "All those posters who predicted Dalbec would hit 50 HRs were totally wrong!"

Not really.

A strawman is an intentional misrepresentation that is easier to argue against than reality. Like arguing against the Sox signing Hernandez because “he shouldn’t have been top priority”…

If the Sox extend Bogaerts, should they trade Marcelo Mayer?

Maybe. Maybe we trade Bogey in 2-3 years, but he will likely want a no-trade clause.
