My own opinion is that posters like Swi's Ghost , MADSTORK, JDavis and a couple of others bring something different to a sometimes boring forum .A little controversy , humor ( maybe not funny to all ) and a little tweaking and ball breaking ( mostly lighthearted) . Nothing to get all bent out of shape over. Personally, I never put anyone on ignore. And , except for posting something really egregious, disgusting or clearly offensive , I don't think anyone should be banned.

JDavis said I was moon's "butt buddy". Some would categorize that as offensive. Some not, I guess.

I don't care for that expression either , but it and similar or worse things have been used on here ,by mostly popular posters , without any objection. We need to be consistent and not selective with things.

Back to the topic at hand….

The Mets want JD and Vaz. The Sox want their #4 prospect. Who blinks?

JD Martinez is a great hitter but he's a DH and he just turned 34. If he's the price of getting back the Mets #4 prospect, you'd have to think hard about it.

I don't feel like we're in a position to give up our starting catcher though. So Vazquez needs to stay, maybe substitute him with one of the catcher prospects in our system.

It's looking more and more likely that the Red Sox will sell at the deadline. The question is will they get back a good return or will Bloom get FLEECED yet again?

Baseball Trade Values gave righthander Luis Castillo a surplus value of $41.2 million and the package of Noelvi Marte, Edwin Arroyo, Levi Stoudt and Andrew Moore a combined surplus value of $63.1 million:

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-98509/

This Seattle fan was surprised the Mariners would trade both shortstop prospects -- Marte and Arroyo -- in a midseason deal. Baseball Trade Values would have approved the trade with Arroyo out of the package.

After a seemingly never ending drought , the Mariners' apparently think that the team's recent play means they have a shot at the brass ring.. Looks like they have decided to go for it . And to get an in demand guy like Castillo , you have to make the best offer. Of course , now you will have folks , who never heard of these young prospects before yesterday , knowingly saying how it was an overpay. That's how it goes. As always , time will be the judge . Good luck .

Correct, yet bellhop sees no problem with calling me a jackass amongst other things. He's a hypocrite.

No. You disallowed time to judge DDs trades.

Why does this forum, despite its great potential for serious MLB discussion, devolve into personal attacks?

Word is the Yanks made a similar overpay offer. I wish they’d have gutted their farm for 1.3 years of LC.

Word is that they refused to include Volpe and that was a deal breaker for the reds.

I would hardly consider hanging on to your best prospect as "gutting the farm"

I'm not aware of any posters who have called other posters homosexuals, but I could be wrong.

There's nothing wrong with being a homosexual either btw. Insults that center around that phrasing more reflect the immaturity of the poster who made it.

If there is nothing wrong with being homosexual, how is it an insult?

I prefer the term “ass-kisser”. Still offensive, but preferred by me.

It’s much better. Less offensive and with corporate undertones…

I am with you about giving up Vazquez. It's a tough call for me, because 1. I'm a big Vaz fan, and 2. I'm not willing to accept the Sox punting the rest of this season. OTOH, much of our hope was/is predicated on getting our injured players back, yet there seems to be setback after setback. It's hard to win games with the team that we've had on the field. So, while I don't want to trade either JD or Vaz, I understand that it makes sense to do so.

Good to see Martinez in the lineup! One pitch away from injury and there goes your attempt to obtain a legit prospect

Great move Orlando

I can't picture the Mets wanting JD Martinez at this point. Is JD much better than Vogelbach? Without looking at the stats, I would think the difference is somewhat minor and Vogelbach probably has better plate discipline than JD. Moreover, I don't think the Mets can carry both Vogelbach and JD on their roster--that would require 2 roster spots for two DH types.

But the Mets are probably interested in Vazquez.

My guess is that JD Martinez has a pretty limited trade market and that the Red Sox can't get much for him, maybe a minor league bullpen arm with some upside but that would be about it.

JD has a .813 OPS this year, that’s well above average, he’s still a good hitter. Yes, not as elite in years past but there’s probably a lot of teams that believe he will be at least the .800 guy down the stretch with a chance of getting hot.

That’s a sought after commodity at the deadline, not going to fetch a teams top prospect but there are going to be teams willing to give up some talent for that.

At this point you’re just complaining about everything and anything to complain about everything and anything.

It’s pretty standard to put players on the trading block on display, and when they perform their stock can go up.

Has JDMs value gone up today? It certainly hasn’t gone down.

Five years have passed since the midseason trade that sent J.D. Martinez from Detroit to Arizona where in 257 plate appearances Martinez posted a .302/.366/.741/1.107 line with 29 homers to lead the Diamondbacks into the postseason.

Martinez may not have that gas left in the tank.

Harm , Since Seattle decided they are all in and acquired Castillo , the injuries have started . In the words of the inimitable John Sterling , " That's baseball , Suzyn. " It can be a cruel game. Good luck.

Do your homework

It’s a risk no matter how you see it

Martinez can hit and has been one of baseball’s best for a long time

2 days off isn’t going to compromise that for any Team looking to deal
