The most important metric for a catcher is what they do behind the plate. McGuire is much better behind the plate than Vaz is. Just looking at offensive stats really downplays what a catcher brings to the table.

However, I don't believe McGuire is the long term replacement for Vaz.

So you are saying that you like the way mcguire handles his staff........

It looks like Gerrit Cole has the opposite problem from McGuire. Since they banned the stickum, Gerrit has a problem getting a good grip on his balls...

For sure, I have a tough time remembering an "ace" that gets lit up as often as Cole does. And Montas has an ERA over 5.00 away from the oakland ballpark. The upside is he does have very good numbers against the astros. The downside is he could be another sonny gray.

I don't either. To me, he's like Sandy Leon- any offense is a plus, but Sandy did play in about half the games for a 3 year stretch, so maybe he'll be more than just a typical back-up catcher.

The metrics I've seen look good, but until I see it work here, I'm not going to be too interested either way.

I have read somewhere that not team has ever won the WS while making a trade for a starting catcher during the season.

I'm not claiming that mcguire has his grips on the starting job just yet.

The one I heard this morning is that when puts down #1 for a fastball are we sure it’s his finger.
