Barring big turnarounds, both of Bloom's big dollar acquisitions, Story and Yoshida, appear to be busts.

I agree with this. Sure he had a nice run this season but look deeper in his metrics and he's not that good. His barrel rate and hard contact rate is terrible. He has the potential to be VERY bad, especially once these weak ground balls and bloop singles stop working for him

Why big turnarounds? Neither of these guys has 500 plate appearances yet…

That was just for dramatic effect, man.

Yoshida is trending very badly, though.

As for Story, if he can stay healthy he should be fine. But that seems to be a pretty big if.

Story so far is ahead of Chang in this stat:

2023 K-rates -- Chang 30.4%, Story 36.4%

He's also blowing him away in OPS .562 to .552.

Trends swing up and down all season long.

This is different IMO. His K/BB ratio has been very bad the last couple of months, and that was supposed to be a big part of his game.

Reportedly, he is struggling with all the games and travel and different time zones--very different from Japanese baseball. His monthly OPS's: April .819; May .962; June .742; July .844; August .596.

He is 3d on the team in total bases (199), 1st in fewest K's per at bats, tied for 4th in games played, 3d in rbi's, 5th in dingers, 3d in batting average, etc.

Meh. He's played in 13 games to Chang's 39 games but has a higher WAR, +0.3 to +0.1. I'm not saying he's earned his pay because he definitely has not. But I'm glad to have him back and don't miss Chang at all.

He is having a slump for whatever reason. Since June, his K/BB is 24/3. He masked it by hitting very well in July. He hasn’t hit much in the past three weeks, but it’s

also only three weeks…

I think those high pants he tugs up has gotten tighter from eating to much chowdah, and it’s restricted his swing.

Why should they be allowed to slump? Fire Bloom!

I think it's time for some executions. There's just no other way.

Cora first?

1. Bloom

2. Cora

3. Yoshida

4. Fielding Coach

5. Pitching Coach

6. Story

7. Wally

8. Dave O'Brien

At that point, Devers should get the hint that he needs to be more mature OR ELSE.

Where's Sam Kennedy? Figures, he cut a deal.

And it's only fair that all those DFAed relievers that keep getting added then subtracted are spared. It's not their fault...

Llovera to me looks like a byproduct of having a GM who made a successful scrap heap pickup. Bloom hit a home run with Schreiber, and suddenly all his wretched refuse picks gain more credibility.

Even DD appeared to do this. Brasier was an immediate success, so suddenly when Kimbrel departs, our big bullpen acquisition is Colten Brewer!!

Llovera is showing why SF DFAd him. Let’s learn from that instead…

He can't throw to a pizza box; he fits right in on the Red Sox staff.

Had Bloom just added one durable RP'er, last winter, many on this list would never have even been acquired.

To be fair, I thought our pitching depth was lacking in quality NOT quantity to start the year, but man-o-man, we lacked both.

Picking up Zach Weiss on Angel waiver wire is another dumpster dive for WooSox depth. Claiming anyone from the single most jinxed MLB team is inviting darkness into your clubhouse.
