Hopefully something comes from this, but I do doubt he gets added to the 40 man roster next year…

So the same thing could happen all over? :P

Although it must be said, Urias probably has a better chance of catching up to a major league fastball than Ray Davies ever did.

I'll give you that. I doubt Ray even played Cricket. But he did give the world WATERLOO SUNSET, one of the greatest songs of the '60's.

So, when Ward gets DFA'd and signs a minor league deal with us, will we hear some meas?

Is he getting DFA’d or are you just making this up?

Maybe 2025? He has a long way to go. This offseason is big for him working with the conditioning staff.

The Phillies are in a tight, multi team wild card race. Evidently, they did not want to use a roster space for Song. I think it is good to have him back. He still might amount to something.

Always good to have a Navy man onboard.

Until Story comes back.

You gotta figure he's the odd man out.

Chang has to stay, due to his superior defense at SS, and Story will likely get some days off, especially out of the gate.

From what I can tell by the numbers, since I haven't seen Urias play D, he a negative on D at SS (-6 DRS in 1116 innings and -8.5 UZR/150.)

I'd hope Reyes returns on a minor league deal, but my guess is he will be claimed by someone. (My guess is, Arroyo will be, too.)

Urias has never been a FT 2B though, and has played there less games than at SS, or 3B, so we’ll see how it works out.

Let's hope how they see Urias as our next 2Bman turns out better than their ideas on Kike's defensive abilities at SS.

Kike’s problem was throwing, and 2B is easier to play as far as that goes.

Question: If Drohan, Fernandez, Gambrel, Perales, Gonzalez, Bastardo -- among the best pitching prospects in the org -- all need spots on the 40... or risk getting picked by the Washingtons and Dombrowskis of the world -- then why didn't Bloom trade other surplus... like Paulino, Lugo, Scott... at the deadline?

Other teams have guys like Lugo and Paulino in their systems that do not need to be protected for Rule 5, this winter. I doubt anyone would have traded for them, let alone given us anything of real value.

I doubt we protect Fernandez. I'm not sure about Bastardo and Gambrell.

Probably the only realistic trades that could have been made would have been to trade Perales or Wikelman- maybe Drohan, if we wanted a decent return, and maybe that's why Bloom made no major trades.

Shortened Rule 5 List:

Lock: Wikelman Gonzalez & Luis Perales

Likely: Shane Drohan

Possible: Angel Bastardo, Grant Gambrell

Maybe: Ryan Fernandez, Eddinson Paulino, Stephen Scott

a) I believe they have to put him on the 40 man roster for 2024.

B) They have to try to make him a major league pitcher.

Put him in the minors and see what happens.

He does not have to be on our 40 man.

He will be Rule 5, again, this winter. I doubt anyone takes him.

Not until December, assuming he is worth it by then…

OK, now I am up to speed on the Songster.

None of us are. He hasn’t pitched enough ever to even let us know what his speed is…

He won't be claimed off Rule 5, this winter, so we have the rest of this year and 2024 to see more from him, and then we'll see about DEC 2024.

I’d be surprised if he was claimed. But DD May strike again…

I doubt it would cause the same uproar, again.

We will not protect him, again. IMO, he won't be selected.

I was shocked at the uproar it caused this time. Ryan Zeferjahn was drafted a full round before and has pitched the while, and I don’t think his selection would cause nearly this much uproar…

Pretty simple.

Only Baseball Nerds would know the name of Ryan Zeferjahn, whereas many Average Fans knew the name of Noah Song, the kid from Navy drafted by the Sox who couldn't play until the Navy released him.

And of course the fact it was DD who took Song made it a potentially juicy story.

Well, Song did make up to 4th on SP's rankings list, so I think it's understandable his name was more recognizable.

The funny thing is, Politi may be the best of the 3, and nobody really talked about his selection.
