Detroit Red Wing fans still lament a period in their history known as the "Darkness Under Harkness".

I sure hope this period in Red Sox history doesn't get looked back on as the "Gloom Under Bloom".

If Henry won't open the safe I still don't feel sorry for Bloom. He signed on during this time period, agreed to the inevitable consequences and is steward of this mess.

Bloom's latest comments on the shortstop situation provoke more angst... not just about his ability to BS, but on face value, to assess talent. He dismisses the concerns about Story's arm strength to play short by extolling Trevor's elite range -- really? Is Story so fast that he'll run the ball over to first?

And Bloom hasn't earned much cred with his "outside the box" approaches to the outfield and first base...

Maybe it's going to take a truly epic debacle for changes to come. Right now we seem to be lined up for one.

Not on D, as I assume the talk is about, but remember, as compared to 2022, Verdugo was within 100 innings of JBJ in RF. It's not like our RF was GG, this year.

Innings in RF

526 JBJ (very good)

432 Dugo (meh)

163 Ref (OK)

124 Cordero (Ughhh-

108 Arroyo -Leee)

46 Duran (Horrific)

24 Ja Davis & 8 Almonte

Over half the innings were from Dugo, Cordero, Arroyo, Duran, Davis and Almonte.

We aren't even sure we're done adding to the OF. (Gallo is better than Dugo.)

I'm not trying to compare with last year, I'm just stating that if you're going to have a bad glove in LF, you have to have an above average glove in RF to help offset it, especially in Fenway. Verdugo is not that guy.

Do I have to bring him up again?

Still available!

And right now, the Sox best plan might be to build a stellar defense…

Sorry, Gallo will be too expensive for us.

He couldn't even defend himself when he was whacked at a clam house at age 43.

You have to have an above average glove in RF regardless of who's playing left field, and I agree that Verdugo IS NOT that guy.

At least he’s better than Arroyo who they put out there last year.

Pillar?

Red Sox were 6 games above .500 before they sent Arroyo hit the IL and went back to the IF for good. They were a better team with Arroyo in RF than with him in the IF.

I agree. I think we'll sign Gallo or Conforto and trade Dugo or play him in LF/DH and share with Yoshida.

I'm going with Kluber, Andrus & Gallo, unless we make a trade.

Makes sense, not happening. Probably won't see any of the three.

Where is the $40M going to be spent, or are we just staying way under the line?

We could trade for a bloated deal, perhaps as throw-in to offset the return on getting a key second player.

Maybe Bloom is looking to add 5 more players. He did say they wanted to add 8-9 players. We've added 4.

SS

RF

SP

C

P

Maybe after the last of the big FAs sign, there will be a trading frenzy.

If you are hungry enough, even table scraps are appealing.

Conforton, Kluber and Gallo have been names we've been talking about long before the winter meetings even started. I'm not sure they're table scraps.

I think the following are the scraps:

Pollock

Miley

Harrison

Lorenzen

Hedges

Cueto

Weaver

Lyles

Myers

Pineda

They will need to fill in the holes at the very least. The options they bring in may just be very underwhelming.

I see 3 holes. They may see 5. With $40M, that's enough for Kluber, Andrus and Gallo, but I'm not sure they get even one of them.

$40M/5 is $8M each or $10M x 3 plus $5M x 2. That's not bringing any studs, but we can get a couple good fitting players.

If we trade for a cheap player or two, we could sign Swanson- but we won't.

I'd rather they tank for 2 more years than sign Swanson to a big contract.

We aren't signing Swanson.

We may not sign Andrus, as he will likely get 2-3 years somewhere else. I guess we could sign Andrus to 2 years and if mayer is ready, quickly, find some solution.

Now Bloom is saying he wants another guy like Kike who can play both outfield and middle infield.

Trae Turner at 300 million doesn't looks so bad right now.

So… Adam Frazier? Jurickson Profar? Jonathan Villar? Brandon Drury?

Well if there's one thing I've been saying we can use......it's another left fielder.

I didn't even think DH was higher than 6th or 7th on our highest need area list, either. LF was probably last on the list, but I better be careful being critical of Bloom, else I might upset my cult.

That's Ceddanne Rafaela!

... double D's for Gold Glove defense in CF and SS

... double N's for Not Now

Wonder if they could do what the Twins did with Correa and give Swanson a big 1 year deal; He'd likely be the big name SS next offseason instead of #5 or 6 like this year.

Just a thought.
