You can look at it that way, but I look at it completely different. Mookie is in Dodger Blue, and Dugy is in a Red Sox uniform. To keep talking about team control doesn’t change that fact.

Sure, facts are facts, just like mine you can't dispute the reality of what I'm saying. Betts only had one year of team control left FACT, that was 1/3 a season FACT, he was resigned for 365 million dollars FACT. You can't compare that trade and completely IGNORE 365 MILLION dollars. It's absurd to not factor that into the equation if you want to evaluate the trade-out past the 2021 season. anything short of that is not rational.

Suarez can play 1B, and Saurez is tied with Judge for the most homers since 2018.

Indeed Aaron Judge homered Tuesday to draw even with Eugenio Suarez in home runs since the start of the 2018 season.

At the hot corner, Rafael Devers, who has a negative 3.4 UZR/150 and a negative 2 DRS in 942 innings at third base this year, is not replacing Suarez, who has a positive 2.9 UZR/150 and a positive 5 DRS in 983 innings at third base. Devers at best would be relegated to DH duties.

Dude, listen, I wish John Henry would grow some balls and compete with the Dodgers. Resign Bogaerts/Devers and go get my some Judge/Contreras/Nimmo and trade for a TOTRS this offseason. I'd be willing to bank on Bogaerts power coming back in that lineup and having the best offense in baseball.

We disagree on how we look at things, so let’s just leave it at that, so we won’t get anymore absurd, or not rational points.

This we agree on.

Saurez is a nice player, but a .798 OPS at 30 years old vs. Devers? I'd bank on Devers posting the better WAR over the next 5 years.

For sure but the Mariners aren't giving up three years of Ty France and five years of Cal Raleigh for one year of team control over Rafael Devers.

Let's also not forget that 12 years is a VERY!!!! long time. We have no idea what Betts is going to look like in 10 years. It could get very ugly. Think of a player like McCutchen who has a very similar profile to Betts. Imagine being so insanely angry we didn't sign him to 365 million dollars.....how happy would we have been several years later?

So far the Dodgers have won one championship with Betts. If the Dodgers win 2 or 3 more with Betts, then I believe the Dodgers' FO will say it was worth the 12yr/365mil contract. If the Dodgers don't win another championship or even if they win one more, they may believe it was a bad move.

The SOX won one championship with JD. Does that make his 5 year contract worth it? I say it does.

Big money is spent on players to win WS, not to just have the best regular season record.

I'm with you here. The bottom line for me is quite simple - a great enough effort was not made to keep a generational future HOF player. If indeed bloom was given some type of mandate which no one knows for sure, the simple fact is that a small market GM was brought in to boston. Many here have more than suggested that a major reason he was brought in was to deal with what some would consider runaway spending. If special players are developed in your own program, my opinion is that if you don't do what it takes to keep them, if the money is there, the local fan base is getting screwed.

The Dodgers are loaded with, or without Betts, but he does make them better. I agree that JD, and his contract was worth it.

Especially the ones who shell out big money to go to Fenway.

Having said this, I have no idea what the Angels' long range plans are.

Like I keep saying Betts is a future HOF. Bogey, and Raffy may get there too. To lose all three, or even two out of the three is just not a good look on, and off the field. Contracts have gone up big time since JH bought the team, but if you still want to play the game you have to pay. The Braves have locked up their young stars early, and Seattle has just locked up one of theirs. What have the Red Sox done, or haven’t done with Raffy? According to Raffy they have only offered him that one contract before the season started, so instead of doing what the Braves have done the Red Sox have sat, and watched Raffy’s price tag go up, up, and up. Not good baseball, or financial sense.

The comparisons to the situations of Betts and Devers may be similar, but a valid question is who is the best bet to produce a consistent HOF career going forward?

Some of the factors could include age, injury history, body type, and (the perception of) personality. For the latter, we know Raffy can hit hard line drives to the opposite field on outside pitches any time he wants, but we've also seen him try to obliterate every single pitch to kingdom come the last month; is that his way of overcompensating for a nagging injury? This is a guy who can hit liners on pitches that bounce in the dirt... Will he mature and someday contain his swing just enough to lead the league in batting average, as well as OPS?

Has his fielding also been affected by ailments? Already slowed by leg and/or back ssues, is Devers' body at age 25 worth investing in for the next decade and committing $300 million dollars?

You always take a big risk when you sign long term contracts that take players into their mid to late 30’s. Raffy would be no exception.

One big thing Devers has on his side is JH won't be spending that 300 mil on a FA, based on the SOX history of FA signings under JH. I'd be very surprised if the SOX don't re-sign Devers.

How much for Trout plus Ohtani?

Trout is broken, and will only get worse as he gets older. A good example of a waste of money that could have been better spent in other ways.

Posted
If they were willing to trade Trout, they might not have to throw in any money at all.

OK, $100M was an exaggeration, but BTV has him at -$37.5M. Rendon is at -$140M.

They might get the Dodgers to take him for a prospect, but I think even they would want some money chipped in.

Are the Angels having a 'going out of business' sale? Buy one, get the other for free.

If they are selling, they may want to get their finances in better order, but maybe the new owner wants some big named players on the roster.

I approve of this message, and I'm not running for anything.

Yeah, who wants to see a bunch of has-beens like Betts, Trout, Ohtani etc. in a Red Sox uniform? We can just thank God for free-agency when we're no longer stuck with long-term commitments to losers like Yastrzemski and Williams.

"Broken"? He has a .960 OPS. His lowest OPS since 2012 is .939. He's a machine.

I’m not talking about when he’s on the field, but the amount of time off the field. Come on man!

Yaz, and Williams were never long term commitments, and neither was Big Papi.

He's had one significant injury in his career, and seems fully healthy again.

He’s missed 40 games this year, and only played 36 last year.
