Then I guess Houck, and Sale would stay home.

That Paxton signing is looking bigger and bigger.

Now I don’t know if Paxton is vaccinated or not, but he is Canadian so maybe?

If that was the case, we would have heard about it.

If it was medical, maybe not. HIPPA laws prevent his doctor discussing it without Houck’s consent (although the team might be allowed to per his contract).

Now why he would keep it quiet is a mystery, but certainly not an impossibility…

Houck’s doctor would not be responsible for giving out that info anyway. That is all on Houck, and all your ifs, or what ifs.

Because instead of looking like a dope who is refusing to play in Toronto, he could just say "I cannot take the vaccine because of my severe allergy. If there was an accommodation, I wouldn't miss the series."

Again, I will state for the record that I believe baseball players are generally the dumbest of the 5 big sports (including Football, Other Football, Basketball and Hockey).

Well it sounded like the Celtics would have had some players who wouldn’t have been able to play in Toronto too.

Certainly a possibility. But then not sure why he thinks his “gee whiz I wish there was just something I could do to play” attitude is going to fly either…

2 staff members of the Red Sox tested positive too, so it’s just the start of things to come.

I'm pretty sure our former president was vaccinated and still tested positive. Your point is?

I would say baseball fans are right there.

I'm pretty sure JD is not vaccinated. Anyone confirm? I thought I read that somewhere. My apologies if I'm wrong.

The rumor I heard was Xander.

But you couldn't possibly trust the science of someone who's been the director of the national institute of infectious diseases for 40 years, over the wisdom of the scholar athletes in the Red Sox clubhouse...

... most of those guys have been alive for at least 25 years!

Reminder, when Story heard that he needed to get a shot to play in Toronto, he just got the shot.

Didn’t that hold up the contract also?

YouTube was a mistake.

The only point was that Covid was probably going to run through the team again like last year. Not being vaxed stops you playing in Toronto, but doesn’t necessarily stop you from getting Covid. That was my point.

I wonder if there are still different protocols for being in close proximity if you are unvaxxed vs vaxxed? There were lots of rules about it last season. The mandatory quarantine could be different too.

They're lucky their parents and grandparents weren't as stupid as they are when polio was around. Maybe they read that classic by Djokovic and Kyrie: EPIDEMIOLOGY FOR IDIOTS.

True.

The vaccine doesn’t hermetically seal your body to prevent the ingress of foreign viruses; it just sets up your defenses if they come.

(I welcome/encourage any and all corrections from medical personnel.)

This is a board about a baseball team, and I have esteem for team players. The fact is the Red Sox qualified for the postseason last year on the final day of the season. The Blue Jays missed the playoffs by exactly one game. Any player who chooses not to follow requirements for participation and is thereby banned from contributing in games in Toronto is jeopardizing Boston's chances this year.

It's interesting that one of the conditions of Story's signing was that he get vaxxed. The Red Sox were able to use their leverage there to force him to do it. But they can't force guys already on the team to do it.

Again, true. Obviously the Jays are 100% vaxxed.

As I said before, the scenario that the Sox have to play game 7 in Toronto isn’t wholly unrealistic. So what do they do if it’s Tanner’s turn in the rotation?

Thank you, Bob, for your years studying microbiology enabling you to make this astute comment.

We’ll find out pretty soon how many of those guys there are, and who.

The same players who once turned down college scholarships because they wouldn't get the required vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella?

I'm really looking forward to the time when these arm-chair microbiologists get their first case of shingles.

I'm surprised the list of players that stayed home hasn't been leaked yet. They'll have to announce at some point today.
