We had laws and rules about mask wearing but "muh freedumbs!!!"

Again, going down this path isn't a productive conversation and will only serve to get someone banned...

What were the laws that were passed regarding masks?

This has to be rhetorical, right?

State legislatures/city councils wouldn’t formally pass them but there were numerous Governors and mayors who issued the equivalent of executive orders mandating masks in a variety of scenarios. As I recall (and I welcome a correction if I’m wrong) one of Gov. Newsome or the mayor of Los Angeles at least for a while early on, mandated their use everywhere, even if you were outside alone.

But mvp is right, this turn in the thread needs to end.

Are the Red Sox doing so well that you need to find other subjects to troll on?

Either do your trolling right or don’t do it at all!!!

The hitters can’t hit. The bullpen pitchers can’t pitch. And now even the trolls can’t troll. Truly a snake it season…

Not trolling at all.

To my knowledge, there weren't any mask laws passed.

If there were I would simply like to know about them.

I don't recall an uproar over "No Shoes: No Service."

Man, having no shoes is very dangerous to us all!

In SoFL, "no shoes, no service" has no meaning.

I know plenty of places in SoFL that won't serve you without shoes and a shirt.

That’s because there’s no comma. It’s two separate sentences…

Garrett Whitlock has been dealing with hip tightness in recent weeks.

It could at least partly explain why Whitlock's performance lately has been up-and-down. Whitlock normally runs outside and on stadium stairs in between starts, but the training staff might have him switch to running on a treadmill instead to see if that helps his hip problem.

Covers.com lists the following injuries:

60 Day

Paxton- Elbow (late August)

Sale- Ribs (mid July)

Taylor- Back (indefinite)

10 Day

Kike- Hip Flexor (indefinite)

Questionable:

Barnes (Shoulder)

Bogey (Shoulder)

Eovaldi (Hip)

I hope Whitlock's issue is mild and short-lived.

Now Evol is pushed back on his next start. What’s up with all the hip problems?
He’s always been fragile. Last season’s good health was extremely usual for Nate.

@ChrisCotillo

Jarren Duran is joining the Red Sox today with Christian Arroyo expected to hit the COVID list, source confirms.

@alexspeier first. Unknown if Arroyo is positive but he was scratched yesterday due to illness.

Not highly relevant, but Mookie Betts went on the IL for a broken rib following an outfield collision. Mookie is having a down year, by his standards , featuring two significant slumps. If his rib recipe is anything like Sale's maybe Chaim can persuade his old buddy Freidman to send us a gift in the BP for Arroyo and whatever else we want to ship westward.

So you think Friedman is going to go from “worth over a third of a billion dollars over 12 seasons” to “unload ASAP” over a singular cracked rib?

He meant send us some bullpen help for Arroyo- not Betts.

Confused -- LA would want Arroyo because of Betts' injury? Why wouldn't the Dodgers just acquire or promote an actual outfielder? Or is the mentor who taught Bloom more likely to crave an out-of-position player?

No, I don't think LA would want Arroyo for the OF. I was just relaying what I felt the statement was addressing.

I don’t think Arroyo is any sort of sought-after trade chip that will bring much in the way of an improvement for the Sox…

You'll hear every idea at least once here. It's how we roll!

I don't either.

I do think a team might give a single A prospect for him, but I seriously doubt it would be the Dodgers.

I think

1. Any team in need of INF help will find other, better options and

2. The Sox do still need a utility INF, even if they can keep him out of the OF…

It's his second highest wRC+ year of his career. He's already at 3.3 fWAR through 60 games. If he doubles that to 6.6, it'd be his third best season.

1) I don't think GMs look at just 2022 numbers when valuing a player.

2) I think some team might view Arroyo as an upgrade over their current utility player or just had a player go our with an injury.

Arroyo might not be as b ad as some think he is. For a 2Bman/Utility player a .762 OPS from 2020-2021 w 9 HRs in 235 PAs and a .745 OPS from 2018-2021 w 12 HRs in 351 PAs is actually pretty good. He's not bad on D at 2B.

A 1.7 bWARin just 72 games from 2020-2021 projects to about a 3.5 bWAR in a full season. fWAR is not as kind: 0.9 fWAR from 2020-2021, but that projects to about a 2 fWAR over a full season.

I think some GMs have a memory. It only takes one.

I'm not praising Arroyo. I'd rather have Fitzy as our infield utility, but I do think some GM would give us a decent single A player for Arroyo.

A FULL SEASON of Arroyo is about 50 games.

Which is about what you'd expect from a utility player.

Yes, his health history is a major stumbling block for any GM thinking of adding him to their roster.

I was thinking with the rule of 14 to 13 pitchers taking affect, today, maye some team might value Arroyo more than what they have in AAA.

We have valued him enough to keep him around for 3 seasons.

A team needing a UIF might be more interested in the cheaper Fitzpatrick…

Players like Arroyo get dealt all the time, usually in inconsequential deals. I just find it odd/unrealistic he has become the “go to” trade piece for filling actual needs…
