The guy with one season over a 1.0 bWAR and a career -8.2 DWAR?

Exactly and although Freeman is a nice dream it just doesn’t fit unless they see major holes in Casas bat .My guy Right now is Nick Casty ominous and Story at this point.

Jackson, do you honestly think they play for a team or a uniform that means nothing to them ? No, it is in fact all about the 100% guaranteed , lifechanging generational money. Most would do the same given the chance.

Exactly! Does anyone think David Price wanted to play for the Red Sox? He only came here because they offered crazy money.

Its hard right now to envision Chaim's plan for this year. I think he spends big next off season and hopes for the best this season.

I felt the same way, last March.

What about Conforto?

Hits as well as Castellanos but is a much, much better outfielder…

He only sees glitter and glitz.

Freeman close to signing with LAD. Word is $150M/ ? years.

6/162. Apparently the Dodgers do not care about any luxury tax. They care about winning.

Seems like Freeman, and the Braves could have worked something out with 1 more year added.

A lot of spending for 1 ring.

Is that what you're reducing it to? They've won about 65% of their games the last 5 seasons, been in the NLCS 4 times, been in the WS 3 times. Isn't that the promised land you were talking about?

The rings are not the only thing I look at, but it felt like an appropriate thing to say about a team that appears to be trying to buy rings after rings.

I've also spoken to this view as it pertains to the Sox and Sox ownership. I think more pride can be taken when you win it all without being the top spender, and even more pride, if you are not at top 3 or 5 or 7... spender, something the Sox have yet to accomplish.

Sure Miami and their fans loved to see the LeBron & Co come to town and bring rings, but the rest of America was shaking their heads at the whole process.

As to my promise land: I'd love to see sustained winning, with maybe one off year scattered here and there, but when the team reaches a point where the odds seem best, then spend more to make it happen- not all out like 2018, but just spend some cash to improve your chances. Maybe we win- maybe we don't, but making an effort, when close, keeps me content as a fan.

I'm not upset at Henry and Bloom. I can see why they do not think "the time" is now. I get the argument that we came so close in 2021, and maybe "the time" was then, and you never know, if you will come that close in a long time, but to me, that team had too many holes to fix by buying pieces to fill, and trading prospects for pieces just harms the longer outlook. I realize this sounds wishy-washy and maybe a bit contradictory, but sometimes things don't all line up all neatly and ordered.

It's how I feel about the Sox. I had wished we'd sign at least one guy long term, but when I look at all the biggest contracts given out, this winter, none jump out at me as one I can get mad at Bloom/Henry for not offering more. Maybe I need to re-adjust my thinking on valuing FAs. Maybe Bloom & Henry do. Maybe they know the value and will one day offer it, but just feel like the timing is not right, this season.

I trust they know more than I do.

Call it what you want, but the Dodgers have been the best team in baseball over the last 5-10 years. 9 straight years in the playoffs. Pretty sure they'll make it 10 and counting.

I do get your arguments, but I don't get pointing to the Dodgers as a team that shows spending doesn't work.

I chose them to single out, because of the enormous and unprecedented gap between their player budget and the second highest spender over the last few years combined.

No doubt, they have won more than others, but I do feel rings are a big part of the package. They finally got one in the mess of the 2020 season, so "yeah" for them!

I can see how many non Sox fans may have looked at our spending to win rings in much the same way, but we never blew ALL the others away in spending.

Should that matter? I think it does. I'm fine, if others don't think the same way.

I hope to see some of our younger guys.

With Verdugo, Kike and JBJ possible starters, I hope to see Duran play more.

I would love to see either Houck or Whitlock get a chance to start.

I can't wait to have Casas get to the majors this year.

Some of our farm guys should see time in the pen.

This is not the 2018 team but it can be a fun team to watch if some our younger kids are playing.

We're not allowed to speculate on ANYONE.

The part I can't figure out is letting all the good available players join other teams first, and then saying, the other teams have improved so much that we should wait until we're good before we spend big.

How can the Red Sox become sustained contenders without good pitching? Are they waiting for Glavine, Smoltz and Avery to get promoted before they sign Maddux?

I’ve touted this banner a few times. It is easy for me, since I bear no responsibility if he flops.

If Bloom just isn’t looking, not good. If he passed on Bradley due to medical issues or injury history, that at least makes sense to me.

I get that Sale’s replacement is probably Houck or Whitlock. But at some point that does mean you need to backfill Houck or Whitlock…

Sox are playing FA musical chairs.

DHern is going to close. It'll be an adventure.

Current state per my best guess

C: Vazquez

1b: Dalbec. Presumably Casas at some point.

2b: E Hernandez? Arroyo once hurt himself catching a throw. I think he’s good, but there are legitimate durability concerns. (But he might fit in with a platoon with JBJ.)

SS: Bogaerts

3b: Devers

LF: Duran? Conforto is still available!

CF: JBJ, with Kike stepping in vs LHP and Arroyo taking 2b.

RF: Verdugo

DH: JDM

Rotation: Eovaldi, Pivetta, Hill, Wacha, Houcklock.

Eovaldi’s health is paramount here.

BP: Houclock part 2, Barnes, Brasier, Diekman, Strahm, Taylor, Sawamura and maybe Davis? Pretty left-handed bullpen here. D Hernandez doesn’t fix this. Maybe Seabold?

Not sure who is joining Plawecki and Arroyo on the bench, but an outfielder might be nice…
