I’m just saying that the way the Sox are playing that no game is a given even against the minor league O’s.

And that has what to do with anyone on this board?

Not sure if you realize this - and this is coming from the guy who said the Orioles are all still major leaguers just yesterday - but what we say on this board has zero effect on how the team plays…

Bogaerts is now 1-16 over the past 4 games and it’s not like he’s hitting into tough luck.

… with 6 strikeouts in that timeframe. Terrible time for a slump…

With all due respect, some of you should just follow another team. I mean it.

Our team has over performed beyond just about everyone's expectation, but finding every single negative aspect of the team has become an obsession.

We are going to win this game, and if we don't, we'll still make the playoffs and deserve it.

Man, this place is depressing.

Like the Rick Pitino rant 20 years ago. All the negativity in this town sucks. Curt Schilling is not walking through that door, and David Ortiz, and Manny are not walking through that door.

Playoffs? Did someone say playoffs?

Go ahead and give up.

No doubt, this team has weakness- maybe too big to overcome, but so do all the teams around us, so I still have hope.

I know this is not about just one game- the putrid one from last night- but an allstar team can lose to the O's in a must win situation. That's baseball.

Keep reading into losses like that whatever you want. I call it negativity. We'll see if it ends up being reality, and you guys can "I told you so" me to the woodshed.

I'm thinking some of you all will enjoy being right- more so than if we make the playoffs.

That's what I find sad.

Seattle won again and are now tied with the Jay's at 1 back of the Sox

They are a half back of us and a half ahead of the Jays. They play one less game going forward.

We face another lefty, tonight.

4th in a row. And suddenly we can't hit lefties. Cortes, Monty, Zimmerman. And we've scored 8 runs in 3 games. :P

We've hit righties better over the season, but with Dalbec's resurgence and Verdugo now being platooned, I expected better.

.787 v RHPs

.758 v LHPs

When a lefty starts: .754

A righty: .792

This is way too reminiscent of the chicken and beer season. What I fear more than missing the post-season are the consequences: the Great Search for the Scapegoat. (Bloom? Cora? top RS players?)

It is and it isn't. Great things were expected of the 2011 team. The first half of the 2021 season was a pleasant surprise and our regression isn't that much of a shock.

One thing to watch for, though, is that Henry and Werner might put some pressure on Bloom to make the team a contender for 2022 no matter what it takes, after 3 seasons out of the playoffs.

You could almost see the 2011 season slipping away when they got stuck with a patchwork starting rotation. Right now, they are all presumably healthy. The 2011 team showed no life towards the end and just died on the vine. This team will go on short bursts where they look like a playoff team and then just embarrass themselves the next series.

With all the one year signings and options about to be turned down, we'll have an opportunity to upgrade at several key positions. The two biggest losses might not even be considered losses by some: ERod & Ottavino with maybe Richards as a RP'er number 3.

Depending on the spending budget, we could see a massive improvement with just 4 players. Key players, yes, but needing only 4 is encouraging.

Ace and a #4 or two solid 2/3's.

A solid set up RP'er

A solid Infield utility man that can field well (Iggy?)

It's been a remarkable up and down season. More and longer ups than downs, but way too many downs to stomach.

It has been a fun season to watch, and the fact that we are still caring with 5 games to go, is a good feeling, for me, anyway. I can't speak for the many that seem to prefer we lose and "get it over with."

It'd be better if they played well and just got blown out in the WC game. The way they can stink up the joint is just not fun to watch. By the time Mountcastle got up in the 6th, you could already see that the Sox didn't really have any fight in them. Then Sale gives up a HR, pitches angry and loses his control. Bats just never woke up.

I can't agree with any of this.

We can win any one game at any given time- just as easy as we can lose one.

I didn't see and loss of "fight." We hit the ball hard for lots of outs, and they got some gifts from our D and hitting the ball to the right places.

I think if we get the Jays or Mariners in Wild Card we easily can win either game

Yankees lately just seem to have our number and we s*** ourselves against them. I don’t see us beating them, but I would stil like to make the WC round regardless.

Of course if I had a crystal ball and could see them beating us 10-0….. then I would rather miss lol

I'd rather they end the regular season on a high note and then lose an unmemorable WC game that we'll all forget in a year or two.

I was thinking the same thing, especially if they're not a Wild Card team. Because no matter how delightfully surprising this club has been -- or maybe because of how encouraging the first half was -- a collapse that keeps Boston out of the postseason will be disappointing. Optimists can point to last year and even last winter's predictions, but we all know how this feels inside right now.

And yet, will any of the following outcomes be acceptable to owners that want to win: not making the Wild Card, getting blown out in a WC game at Yankee Stadium, winning the WC game but getting swept in the ALDS, winning the pennant but losing the World Series, etc.

I for one have not given up. I don’t scoreboard watch, and I could care less what Seattle, Toronto, or the Yankees are doing. I’ve said for weeks that all the Sox have to do is take care of their own business, and it won’t matter what the other teams are doing. Of course they can’t seem to do that, and that is why they are in the position they are in. It just looks like they have given up, and have not played good baseball for the most part since the all star break, and even worse since the trading deadline. There is not one player on this team right now that you can count on, and this weekend against the Yankees they looked like a little league team. Couldn’t pitch, couldn’t throw strikes, couldn’t field, couldn’t run the bases, and the so called big bats were not so big, so when you say an all star team can loose to the O’s well the Sox are not an all star team, and look more like the O’s the way they are playing. You worry to much about negativity. You can only polish a turd just so long.

This is more wins than the vast majority of fans expected of this team. However, this is just not fun right now.

I think the owners just wanted to be competitive this year and had no expectations of making the playoffs. If they did, we would have seen more movement at the deadline and last offseason. We'll have to see if they loosen the restrictions this November or if it'll be wait until 2023. I have a sinking feeling they are going to hold off on FA acquisitions due to uncertainty surrounding the CBA, but that's ******** IMO.

Yes, the team just seems to be running through the motions.

11 runs in 4 games

Against tonight's Oriole starter Zac Lowther the Red Sox scored 10 runs in 5.2 innings and hit .414/.485/.621 off of him in two previous games this year.

The Sox have a lot more problems then you are seeing, and saying just 4 players could make a massive improvement is wishful thinking.

JD

E Rod

Fred Flintstone Schwaber

Renfroe

The most important Bogey

All of these signing, or not signings staying, or not staying have to be answered before you can do anything. 2 solid starters I agree with, but if you think a solid RP is all the bullpen needs then you are way overestimating the bullpen. They need a real closer to begin with, and I’m not counting on Whitlock who needed 3-4 days between appearances to be effective, but I don’t see to much else in the bullpen that I would keep. Only needing a solid utility man for the infield? You have way overrated the rest of the infield. Wow!

In one game elimination games, anything goes.

TBH, Dalbec is just a placeholder for Casas. Arroyo is a placeholder for Downs/Yorke.

The biggest IF acquisition they should make this offseason is for a defensive upgrade at Catcher. I think the positional roster is pretty much set. I doubt Xander is traded and I doubt JD opts out.

We'll see much more movement on the pitching side of things.

Of course. I agree. We seemed to be all swinging for more solo HRs.

I'm just not equating that with "no fight." Call it stupidity, okay.
