To answer the original question on who gets sent down (or demoted from the rotation) once Sale returns, the answer is ...

All FIVE!

Yup. At this point we need a hell of a lot more than Sale to save this season. The entire rotation the last 24 games is as bad as it gets.

I would like to see the stats through the last month. We have to be the worst starting rotation in the entire league or close to…

Vaz also needs to call better games. Some of these pitch sequences in this series got me puzzled

I thought Vaz had the day off. Plawecki was playing wasn’t he? I shut it off literally after the third inning so maybe I’m wrong.

Vaz is off today but caught the first 2 games of this series.

Oh yes makes sense. Pretty sad that we have 4 on the board and it’s a blow out lol. You know the pitching is bad when.

Be interesting to see what management does, if anything. Not many moves considering the weaknesses that are developing.

Over the past 30 days, Sox starters have a 5.24 ERA, which ranks 12th in the AL. But their starter FIP over that same stretch is 3.97, which is 5th in the AL. Their team E-F is second in the AL.

I think what we are seeing is basically a market correction. These guys were not really as good as they had looked , and are not really as bad as they look now. Somewhere in between.

Hopefully not right exactly in between.

Well… the Yankees lost

So we have that lol

7- zip.

We are up 5.5 on the Yanks with 96 to go.

They have been a huge disappointment this year. Sox have overachieved and Yanks underachieving big time. I don’t want to say too much because I always have that feeling the Yankees could all the sudden rip off 10 straight and be right back in it. They are too talented to be playing like this.

Agreed, but their SP'ers do not look 5 deep enough to win 10 straight.

Valid point. This division is still in question right now, Jays are looking pretty damn good lately though.

A lot of teams have looked real good at certain times. It wasn't long ago, I heard people talking up the Astros as the team to beat.

I never hear anyone talk about the A's, who have gone 39-21 after losing the first 6 games of the season.

Almost all of the top contenders have looked like the best at some point, this year.

I don’t want to say it’s still early, but it kind of still is too early. Plenty of baseball left in the season

Of course, and I am a long way from giving up on 2021.

If we lose the next 4, I'm still liking our playoff chances.

Every AL team has serious weaknesses, even the Rays, Astros, White Sox and A's.

They will all hit a tough patch, at some point.

BTW, we all knew June was going to be tough, and we are only 6-6, but it feels like we've lost 11 of 12 reading all these posts- mine included.

Exactly, we are in the toughest part of our schedule, and TB has been playing their weakest part of the schedule.

The Red Sox rotation will be fine, if they can stay healthy. As you said, they weren't quite as good as they looked earlier in the year, but they're also not as bad as they have looked recently. Chalk it up to playing against some really good offenses and going through a rough patch.

Moving forward, I expect to see more of what we have seen most of the season. The starters won't be lights out, but they will pitch well enough to keep the team in the game.

Everyone, take a deep breath.

I still think we'll see improvement out of E Rod. He's not quite himself yet.

I don't know if someone has posted ERod's peripheral stats recently, but he has an expected ERA of 3.59, to go along with his 3.86 FIP, 3.49 xFIP, 3.66 SIERA, and well above career norm .370 BABIP. ERod has not been pitching nearly as poorly as the results he is getting. Eovaldi is in the same boat, though not to the same extent.

Good to know, and welcome back.

If we need another reliever, why not give ort a shot? We have enough dead meat we could clear off the 40 to make room for him,

I see Ort as someone who could get Workman's roster spot. Since Workman is out of options, Ort would give the Red Sox more flexibility.

Richards pitched from the bullpen a few times in 2020 with the Padres. He also gained bullpen experience back in 2012 and 2013 with the Angels.

Could ort be an upgrade over a andriese?
