I hope it is one bad game where his command was just off and not a sign that his stuff isn’t as robust as people thought!

He also looked pretty good in something like 7 IP in ST'ing.

It’s not as if this was Bobby’s first HR. This is who Dalbec will be. JBJ with more power but less defense. He’s going to go on tears and have months where he disappears.

It still remains to be seen, if he can hit .260 like the minors not .220 like the majors.

He also walked a lot more in the minors (.360 OBP).

There's a chance he can improve in these areas and be a much better player.

The K rate will likely not change much.

I don’t think he has much more than a .225 maybe .240 hitter. Personally I don’t think he’s here long term.

I don't disagree, but I might guess .240 to .245 but an OBP around .325 to .335 not .290ish.

Dalbec currently has something like a 40 percent swing and miss rate!

That is almost too brutal for any manager to justify!

If anyone knew that's what he'll give us going forward, correct. There would be no justification, except maybe we have nobody better.

Baseball does not work out so neatly.

Oddly enough, what you said sounds frightening similar to what my douchebag stock brokers tell me whenever I reject their “big win proposals”, and stay with my gut!

It’s too bad you can’t go back in time and sell that strategy to desperate Dave!

Are we really at a point where we want to trade some of our future for a win now addition?

Absolutely not. I don't mind buying players, Just don't give up young talent.

That we may do. I could see us trading someone like Chavis for a salary dump player. I doubt we trade someone younger or more promising.

Bloom may have a few prospects he doesn't like that other GMs view in a better light. Maybe pitchers from before his time, like Groome, Ward or even Mata, but I doubt for a 2 month rental.

Right now two of the plausible top prospects are committed to the Olympics. Chavis and Franchy are there but not great replacement choices. Have to wait until mid August for Duran or Chavis and both are unknown at the ML level. I think we either go outside the organization or wait, as painful as that seems.

Biggest frustration watching Dalbec is him taking strikes and then chasing balls out of strike zone. He is dead in water with 2 strikes against him I guess that's pretty much true for all .200 hitters.

It's true for a lot of hitters this year.

Anyone who K's 30% or more of the time must chase some bad pitches, but in the minors, Dalbec had a .360 OBP.

He must have had a decent eye to do that. Maybe he can regain some of that skill, again.

.195 to .220 won't cut it, even if you hit 30-35 dingers (Dalbec's career HR pace).

I think you meant Duran and Casas.

Chavis may be replacing Santana, soon.

Maybe not before, but now we’re in the Era of Launch Angles...

As you're suggesting, Dalbec needs to start taking more walks.

I did. Too early in the morning for me I guess. Off to play softball.

What I see is that Dalbec takes too many pitches over the plate, including 3rd strikes. I would tell him to swing at any pitch over the plate.

If you have a broker who uses phrases like that, you need to get a different broker.

Reportedly the Reds were trying to move Castellanos and/or Moustakas’ contracts all off season. If true, I doubt any trade for Castellanos will cost much in terms of minor league talent. Heck if Cincy gets desperate enough, maybe Bloom can go all Ottavino on the Reds and actually increase the Sox prospect pool....

It would be nice, but I'm not one of those people who say, "They need to tell him to get more walks."

I'm hoping over time, he ets his OBP up to respectability. I doubt it ever gets to his .360 minor league number, but over .300 would be much better, and .330 makes him a clear keeper.

Joey Gallo is a career 331 OBP guy. That has to be the floor for Dalbec.
