Some will end up signing minor league deals. Maybe a few get no deals or retire.

 

I think there will be a lot of minor league deals...

142 names left. for them all to get jobs, that would be nearly 5 per team..

 

It would be interesting to create a new 40 man roster from the names on that list and see where it falls vs the Lux tax line level . Also what the WAR ratings would be vs the existing Red Sox 40 man roster.

Sort of a fantasy exercise because you would have to ignore the contracts in place, except for their cumulative value against the tax limits.

With 15 days left until Pitchers and Catchers report to camp, the average of daily signings will be 10. Things will start getting very active.

Utilityman Marwin Gonzalez is garnering interest from at least six teams, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand (Twitter link). The Red Sox have been linked to Gonzalez in recent weeks and continue to be involved in his market, Feinsand writes, while NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury (via Twitter) reports that the Phillies are also interested in Gonzalez’s services.

I wonder how many meaningful FAs might end up having to sign for $1-2M for a 1 year deal at the last minute.

 

We might possibly get someone like Moreland or Marisnick that way.

 

It's hard to guess who gets left behind as table scraps, and if any gems will be hidden there.

They really could be done. I'm going back to Houck as the logical candidate to close. Better that I think than play in AAA.

I have to think there will be a few "bargain deals" out there in the next 2 weeks.

 

Bloom is known for finding these types of players and deals.

 

I agree, Bell, we are not done.

 

We may not do anything major, but there is still room for that, but we could also do several modest moves that beef up our roster depth- both 26 and 40 man.

Delmonico was the hitting version of Dylan Covey. Former White Sox minor leaguer who was only good against the Red Sox. Bloom had no reason to sign him other than preventing anyone else from taking advantage of his singular skill...
