Not basing this on any facts, just wondering if a guy who signed here a year ago and got traded after playing half a season (30 games in '20) would maybe not want to risk repeating that experience. I know money talks, but if there's an equal offer, how many veteran employees of any industry would prefer to keep transferring job locations?

I think Moreland would come back. Pillar, too.

Schoop would be a great pump and dump option. His RH power in Fenway would make for a very high likelihood of strong value at the deadline

You're so thoughtful.

That could end up happening, or he could help lead us to the playoffs.

Because my brain is broken, I dreamt last night that only Schoop and some AAA scrub were left available and the Sox were still dragging their feet.

I do have to say though that Dee Strange-Gordon's versatility could really help between OF and 2b.

I don't think many Sox fans would tolerate his sub .675 OPS.

How many OF-2B types does this team need? Especially ones who suck in the OF?

He's just a placeholder IMO. At some point, either Downs or Durran is given a shot late summer.

"Gotta collect 'em all."

Also, Chavis is NOT a 2B. He's a 1B/LF.

Well, EHern is better in CF than 2B and is a plus defender in CF.

While it would surprise me if the plan all along was to use Hernandez in CF, it certainly does have a lot of merit...

He has a lot more time at 2B than OF. And his metrics at 2B are better than Strange-Gordon's are in the OF...

Chaim Bloom's extraordinarily patient, meticulous and disciplined approach can do a number on our heads, I have to admit.

It did seem like the accepted role for EHern was 2B with maybe a little time in CF, but the more I look at the defensive skillset of EHern and how having him play CF also improves the defense in LF and CF and maybe 2B, depending on who plays there, it makes sense to add a 2Bman not a CF'er.

I'm not sure if Schoop will be cheaper than Pillar, but if they are close to equal, I'd take Schoop, easily.

And the biggest name on the market still without an employer.

Heck, 16 of the top 50 (per MLBTR) are still without new contracts...

I have to wonder what sort of great deals (for the teams) are going to be done, last minute.

Maybe that is what Bloom is doing... waiting it out.

Some guys obviously won't be signing until after spring training starts. :P

No, you see the hot stove season is now 2/1 - 2/14.

So far today, we've seen Sean Doolittle (a most ironic name for this post) sign. So maybe it's 2/3 - 2/14?

142 names left. for them all to get jobs, that would be nearly 5 per team..

I'm hoping the Sox can swoop in and grab some decent 1 year guys.
