Actually I just like baseball talk.

If I was actually the GM, I’d overthink every trade until after the deadlines all passed...

This is why I'm not playing fantasy baseball for the time being. LOL

Which means: Bogaerts, Vazquez, Eovaldi, Perez and Barnes will be part of the 2021 team.

I am sad about Moreland being traded (though not unhappy with the return), but all in all, I think it was a good trade deadline for Bloom. He kept a good part of the team intact, which is a good starting point for us to be competitive next year, and he got a good return for the players he did trade.

I liked his comments today regarding the trades, or lack thereof.

Barring a delayed announcement, the deadline also passes with JBJr in his last month with the Red Sox. No idea what Bloom's discussions with other GMs about Jackie entailed but obviously he didn't draw enough payoff to make a deal.

This is one guy for whom FA is going to be a long, unrewarding slog through this particular winter.

Would you re-sign him for 2/$12? I dont think he will have many dance partners, & I think this year @ $11 was overpay.

So we won't know the full extent of the traded PTNL for Pillar and Osich for a month or does the season include the Playoffs?

Sometimes the names can leak unofficially. For example, the PTBNL in the Clevinger trade was already named in the early article...

Just curious: are there any PTBNL's who have made a significant contribution to their new club?

Can someone please explain to me the infatuation with JBJ... a CF that plays great D but doesn’t steal bases and can’t seem to learn to hit the ball the other way! For the amount we’re paying him I would’ve rather kept Pillar!

They are both FAs after this year, so it was likely about who brought us back the better return.

How about a guy named David Ortiz?

There's also...

Michael Brantley

Moises Alou

Jason Schmidt

Crash Davis!! He helped Nuke LaLoosh become a better pitcher, better interviewee, and a better man...

Trea Turner!!

They even rewrote the rules so he could be one...

Hang’em Chaim did not move as much dead weight as I would have liked, but he smartly hung onto homegrown players. Sends the right message to the locker room and the minors.

I love JBJ and I hope that Bloom re-signs him. Not for $11 mil, but maybe Jackie would be willing to sign for about half that for one or two years.

I agree about him hitting the other way.

I also think another PTBNL who made a significant contribution is Harry Chiti, who was sent to the Guardians by the Mets to complete a trade for ...

Harry Chiti!!

Wasn't he released by Twins and signed by RS? He wasn't a PTBNL was he?

Actually the Rockies wanted a right-handed hitting OF...

The Twins actually OBTAINED Ortiz as a PTBNL.

Ah, thanks. I still don't think I'll be starting my celebration on the great PTBNL's we have coming!

Last season's signing of JBJ was very curious. They should have nontendered him and then signed him for less. Maybe it was an offer of goodwill and Chaim wants to keep him around long term?

We have seen a lot of African American players trash Boston as a place to play, but maybe JBJ will come back because the Red Sox have made him a richer man ($31 million per B-R!!) than most other teams probably would have. However, the wrong offer can undo that amount of goodwill pretty rapidly, especially in the wake of statements made by Adam Jones and Torii Hunter that might describe situations that Bradley has experienced himself...

This is a conversation we used to have on here, but with all the drama bleeding from the "other" thread, I'm going to refrain.

I'm going to be apolitical and just say that ownership should finally tear down Fenway and build a better stadium elsewhere in the city. Everyone can agree on that.

I disagree.
