I think my problem with soccer has always been the lack of scoring. If there was an 'arena football' type version of soccer I might be more interested.

MISL (Major indoor soccer league) basically played in a hockey rink with a smaller net. The walls were in play and the pace was much much faster than NASL and FIFA leagues.

The league disbanded in 1992. Boston did not have a team...

I have never been able to get into soccer, but as you know, many other countries are rabid about it. Soccer fans are crazy.

Five Phillies players and three staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. They have temporarily closed their training facility in Clearwater, FL. The Tampa Bay Lightning have also closed their facility. These spikes may just end up keeping baseball from returning, after all that mess over money.

Yes, they are.

Another sport that I could never get into was cricket. I couldn't even figure out the rules! But again, many people love it.

And then there's rugby. Now here is a game that seems less about strategy and more about pure animal struggle and violence LOL

In the British West Indies, they say that the British introduced cricket to teach the colonies the value of patience.

That’s because matches take days!!!!

It’s the only sport where - and I am not making this up - the players break for tea!

Yeah, I am seriously doubting the ability of a season to get underway. Even though, the likelihood is these players will be entirely fine. But the coaches and the umps are at risk. Last thing we need is half a team to be asymptomatic and Dusty Baker getting killed by this

So the owners, with an easy compromise at hand (65 games?) refuse to budge. Wow. Nothing quite as cool as a bad-ass billionaire. I'm sure the fans are going to love to fill the internet with support of these guys and decry the players as LOSERS! This year is clearly lost. And likely 2021 as well, since it will only be a prelude to a strike before playoff times. If the owners are trying to show how tough they are, and how they NEVER will negotiate, they've done a good job. Good luck trying to get an agreement for the new CBA, which may well put the value of their franchises at 0 come 2022.

I understand the Phillies closed their camp after a number of players and staff tested positive.

I don't want no half ass season. Personally, I'd like it better to just look at this year as a loss for baseball. Find other things to do. Wait till we have a kickass 2021 full on season.

23 Clemson football players also tested positive. It's going to be very hard to pull off team sports this fall with numbers like that. The NBA probably has the best chance. As for ... what was that sport? The one with billionaire owners and guys with bats? ... I forget.

I'm not sure that I have ever watched a cricket or a rugby match. Or are they called games? I have a friend who has repeatedly tried to explain the game of cricket to me, and it just doesn't comprehend. LOL

Yeah, that would be horrible. Some more players have tested positive, two from the Angels and one from the Astros, I believe.

MLB is now reconsidering the "bubble" approach to the season where they play all of their games in a centralized location. The problem is that the two places they were considering, AZ and FL, are two places that are seeing some of the largest spikes.

Yikes! I don't know what protocols college football has in place as far as testing and isolation, but IMO, I think that leagues are really going to have to limit travel and keep players more or less quarantined. All of this movement and interaction with the general public is not going to keep the infection out. Once it gets into a training facility, it will likely spread very quickly due to the nature of sports.

Also, MLB is shutting down spring camps to reestablish protocols.

The latest on the negotiations is that the owners are not going to make a counter proposal from their current 60 game season. (How many times have we heard that a side is not going to make a counter proposal?) So apparently, it will either be 60 games agreed upon or 50 games mandated by Manfred, who is not back on his 'there will be a season' mantra. Good grief.

The cluster$#!% just keeps getting worse and worse.

I was really hopeful for a season. Now with the coronavirus spikes in many areas, I don't think it's going to happen. :(

I think the logistical challenges are simply too great to make any season likely now.

In March I was saying that I didn't want a season at all, but that was for an entirely different reason. I still don't want a season. It just isn't worth it. Keep everybody healthy, and make 2021 even better.

I can explain cricket so you’ll understand.

A team consists of several very well dressed players headlined by one called a “bowler”.

The bowler is like a pitcher

Before he bowls/pitches, quickly change the channel and watch baseball. Or any sport not played by people wearing sweaters...

I played cricket one time at summer camp when they were doing some sort of diversity day. I certainly didn't hate it, and I was pretty good since it combines the hand eye coordination of baseball with running, two things I'm above average at.

At UConn, I'm friends with this guy who started a Cricket Club with his roommate. I don't have the time to participate, but it certainly looks fun

I already do that. But my wife and kid complain that it takes too long because I open and close the velcro on my remote gloves three times before I change a channel.

Florida numbers, predictably!, rising far too rapidly for the state to repress with feel-good comments or by firing scientists. Their plan now seems to be to fill up all the hospitals so that they can get to 0 admissions. Not a good sign for those of us who would like to see the NBA, football, or that other summer sport, have a season.

Cricket, like baseball , is unique in its style and rules . The other major team sports all have the same , war like , premise . Two opposing armies, trying to penetrate and break down the opponent's defense , while defending their own territory and home.

That description seems more fitting for football/rugby...
