I'd love to get back to the rhythm of listening to baseball (wait ... is my radio still working? Maybe I should replace the tubes.). But here's $100 saying the season will never get done. (Well, I don't have $100, because ... I forget why ... but still. ...)

I say it will. We can have an imaginary $100 bet. :)

There have been a few COVID cases in MLB recently so maybe there is some sort of stop and start rhythm to this season. Maybe it'll feel like the year they started with scabs? Maybe it'll feel like extended Spring Training?

I just can't wait for the glory of the TalkSox Game Threads tho!

Loser puts “I owe [winner] $100” as a signature line?

Done. (Someone will have to walk me through that, though.)

Well, if they are reporting in Florida/Arizona, that might not end well, given the Phillies and Blue Jays camps shutting down this past weekend. I say bring them all up to New England. Life up here is almost back to normal and guess what? Everybody wears masks

The spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona were shut down a few days ago.

Some rule changes to accommodate the abbreviated season.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/06/latest-on-potential-2020-rules-changes.html

1. I found the idea of having two teams of additional players in Nashville, ready to go, an interesting one. I am wondering if they can only be signed due to coronavirus related need.

2. I really dislike the rule of starting a runner on 2B in extra innings, but I can see the point of it for this year. Just please don't ever make it a permanent adoption.

Never get done as in completed through the end of the playoffs? That's a very distinct possibility.

Manfred is pushing the game in that direction.

Teams can have 30 players on the roster to start the season. I'm not sure that I can remember 30 players! LOL

Who will be the extra 5 players?

Well, Jonathan Arauz will be one do they can bury him on the bench and fulfill their Rule 5 obligation.

I suspect 3 or 4 will be pitchers since there will be so few days off. So maybe Jeff Springs, Matt Hall, Josh Osich and Colten Brewer are in play.

Yairo Munoz is another player likely to get considered..,

60 game season = every game is a bullpen game. Blow those arms out.

Yes, for a month.

Well, let's say (as is likely) the season is shut down in September, just before the playoffs, due to the virus or a player strike. Then he and I will be arguing over precisely what we agreed to in the "June Agreement."

Damn straight, Tony.

Best wishes, Rob

So now that the season is on the schedule, the Sox can try to reset.

But is there any minimum number of games required for the reset to be official? If the Sox play one regular season game, and a COVID outbreak derails the season again, does it count?

Camp will begin July 3, but players will have to show up for spring training no later than July 1, Nightengale adds.

Who is going to tell them that it's not SPRING anymore?

Any player or manager who comes within 6 feet of an umpire to argue a call could receive a suspension, per Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Wouldn't be an issue if they just booted up the robots.

@NYGovCuomo

I am announcing with

@GovMurphy

and

@GovNedLamont

a joint travel advisory. All individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID into NY, NJ, or CT must quarantine for 14 days.

This travel advisory is effective midnight tonight.

I wonder what impact stuff like this will have on MLB. Maybe the Yankees and Mets don't get to have home games? Get moved to a neutral site?

Note: this is not a political post, I am not commenting on Cuomo's decision either way.

I think this puts an end to baseball.

The advisory currently applies to the following states:

Alabama - 0 teams

Arizona - 1

Arkansas - 0

Florida - 2

North Carolina - 0

South Carolina - 0

Washington - 1

Utah - 0

Texas - 2

Since teams will only be playing intradivisional games and inter league games against the mirror division, this should not be a huge problem, although it does apply to Tampa and Miami...

4 relievers and Lin?

I was thinking something similar, in terms of at least 4 of the players being relievers.
