Yeah! Weber! And his 5.04 ERA/4.37 FIP...

A 4.37 FIP is pretty much major league average, so that's a point in Weber's favor.

While his FIP was better than I expected, the real issue is it was compiled in about 114 IP on 4 different teams over the last 5 seasons. There is legitimate cause for concern here...

They're getting him to throw more cutters and they think he'll be better as a result.

Let's give Bloom a chance.

Let's give Bloom a chance.

I think John Lennon said that. If you can’t believe John Lennon, who can you believe?

But seriously - depth! The Sox haven’t even played a game yet and they’re down a starter!! When it comes to depth, Bloom needs to take some chances at this point....

Considering that Weber tossed 3 innings yesterday, maybe the plan is for him to be a starter, not an opener.

Sometimes, there can be a thin line.

I'd kind of lean towards using DHern as the starter/opener, but I admit I'm no expert of the matter.

this will be great if they go back to the baseball with higher seams and/or if we incorporate the Cole Method for pitcher grip/spin rate.

After getting the s*** kicked out of her, I'm sure John Lennon's first wife stopped believing in him.

Bloom needs a high draft pick or two plus a selloff to build what he wants

We may get #17, this year, if the league doesn't take it away. That's not high, but it's better than we've had since 2016 (Groome at #12).

We might get a top 14 pick next year.

If we're not draft-pick penalized, keep in mind that Bloom is a new wave officer. I wouldn't be surprised if he cleans house to tank for higher picks.

Still can't believe he couldn't coax one stinking minor league pitcher from his buddy in LA -- in two trades for Mookie Betts (except for someone else's damaged goods).

Oh, you mean Rob Manscape has not yet finished his homework? Maybe he can bury the news of his decision on a late Sunday Sports Center, right after SVP's Bad Beats. Or wait for Opening Day to enthuse the fan base of baseball.

Heard anything?

No, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything's dead.

That said, Sale's possible season ending injury puts a whole different spin on things.

Seriously. It is time for a Clay Buchholz signing.

Do we have an IL shortage?

Buchholz has an arm and a pulse. Do we have loftier standards than that right now?

Screw Myers. Sign the only two decent free agents left - Arodys Vizcaino and Yasiel Puig. Verdugo is out. Pillar is no replacement. And the fifth spot in the Sox batting order looks to be a battle between Mitch Moreland and Michael Chavis.

Vizcaino gets hurt a lot, but when healthy he is flat out on. He’s no less risky than Eovaldi and a heckuva lot cheaper.

And make Barnes an opener. He can’t pitch consecutive days anyway, which can really limit his appeal as a high leverage reliever. Two innings every fifth game might work out a lot better for him...

Moreland was scratched on Sunday. He took some extra BP and looked like a steaming pile. The pitching machine was beating him. Seriously.

Can we sign the pitching machine and trot it out there every fifth day?

Puig is not walking through that door.
