Everyone knows how I feel about Sale, but we very well may have won without him.

The advantage of having an ace that may be underrated in fandom is how it's perceived by his teammates. Having a stud strut to the mound every five days -- a guy you know is going to overmatch opponents -- sets the tone of the season and gives a club confidence that can't be measured. He doesn't have to win 20 games or K 300 batters, but his influence can infuse simultaneous energy and ease on the defense and offense, not to mention take the pressure off the rotation and provide rest for the bullpen. The right horse can be a huge factor -- and that exactly what the Yankees are hoping from Cole this year.

Oh, I get it. The other great thing about adding an ace, is it makes your current #1 the #2, your #2 becomes your #3, your 4 the 5 and your 5 adds to the pen.

Right on -- and if he's really good, an ace can throw a demoralized order into a funk for days, even inducing the start of some batting slumps.

Hey, you're signing to the choir on Sale. I loved Sale from about 3-4 years before the trade.

That being said, Kimmi is right, we "Might" have won without him. (We might not have.)

We won and Yankees have not......lets go build another winner!

YES!

The Betts trade was the first step of many needed to get us there.

I think we can win again before Sale and Bogey's deal run out. I'm not sure 2021 is realistic, but I'm trying to stay optimistic.

I agree that Bloom should be signing pitchers to minor league contracts. As many as he realistically can. I'm not sure why he hasn't yet, but maybe he has bigger plans up his sleeve?

If not, this will be a criticism that I will carry all season.

I think hang’em Chaim is aiming for a different category of pitcher. He seems to be looking for a young controllable pitcher with a flaw or two that if he fixes, will pay off big time.

Could be total genius if it works!

Since so much of this disc. is about the "reset," does anyone know what CBA/league rules are on 'restructuring' contracts, say, by back- or front-loading them, to get under the cap for one year and thus resetting? (i.e., say, writing a contract for a high-end player in the 100s of millions, but having one of those years listed as $1 (or one million) and using that year to get under the cap)? I assume neither the league nor the union would buy such an obvious ruse (since it would artificially reduce what a team pays out). But is there specific language in the CBA about such things? (i.e., long-term contracts averaged out for salary cap purposes?)

The luxury tax number is the average annual value of the contract. It is not the payment made in a specific season

...and that's the reason they use the average salary not seasonal.

It's a reason I'd prefer offering Betts $416M/13 over $360M/10 The AVV is $32.0 vs $36.0

He should be doing both, since they are for different reasons...

Thanks, I don't know why I keep doing that.

I also keep typing Bllom not Bloom.

at least your not including S5 quote in every reply now.

As the great philosopher once said "catch your dreams before they slip away." This is in regards to having one of the greatest players in MLB leave because the Sox ownership couldn't watch the hen house.

That philosopher didn't envision a dream costing $420 million, I don't think.

I'm pretty sure super famous and rich Mick Jagger could envision that.

Jagger leaves tips bigger than that.

meh. his net worth is only $360MM. should have played 10 years of baseball instead of 80 years of rocknroll.

Mick also said you can't always get what you want, so he really covered the whole deal.

He wanted to, but he was puzzled by the nature of the game...

These are some very valid points with which I agree.

Bloom appears to be looking for creative ways to get us some starting pitching that is a tier or two above the dumpster dive.

That said, there is still nothing wrong with adding as much depth as possible.
