The next guy who should be DFA'd is Velasquez.

Believe it or not, most GMs do not value players on just recent performance levels. I'm not saying he has great trade value, but someone would give us something of value for him. He should not be DFA'd. Plus, he has options left, and we have 4-6 players on the 40 man roster right now with less value than he has.

Nunez did some good things for the Red Sox . Give him credit for that. He is what he is . A utility infielder. There are a lot of them around.

DD seems to be getting very reactive, recently.

Wright sucks and gets placed on the "phantom?" IL.

Nunez sucks again and get's DFA'd.

Velazquez sucks and gets demoted.

Weber and Travis are not solutions, my friends. We need to make a deal for a RP'er YESTERDAY!

Moreland will replace Travis, but we need to replace Weber and Walden on the 25 man roster. Give Cora a couple new tools (2 solid RP'ers) and tell him that's it: sink or swim. Prepare for a sell-off, if things don't improve.

He did do very well at the start and had some big hits as he struggled afterwards.

That being said, he should have been DFA'd weeks ago.

You're just guessing about Wright.

Velazquez pitched 3 days in a row and wouldn't be available for a couple of days so he got shuttled.

And you just said Nunez should have been gone weeks ago.

Maybe, but all 3 moves were made after these last two gut-wrenching losses.

What did they say was Wright's new injury?

Had Nunez gone 3 for 4 last night, would he still be here?

The Velazquez choice makes sense, in light of the long stretch of games we face.

Wright has a bruised right foot, he got hit by a line drive by Muncy.

He will likely be Alex's bench coach at some point.

If not his replacement, as about 49% of this site has him fired, lol

I have nothing against Nunez, who had some big moments for the Sox, and I also had no problem with Dombrowski re-signing him.

That said, it was time to part ways.

I am surprised that Dombrowski actually let him go, but it was the right thing to do.

We are at a point in the season where something has to be done to get this club to play better ball. Last night there was a lot of good effort by many players yet we came up short. So perhaps the message had to be sent that if you don't perform, you may be gone. Nunez and Velazquez certainly fit that category and with Moreland coming up soon, room had to be made. Velazqez was one of the weakest links in the BP, so we need to try a different path.

Nunez is a good dude, he always played hard and I think we all will forever remember his pinch hit home run in the world series. He had his moments and was loved in the clubhouse.. That being said, man was he a frustrating player and I'm not sad to see him go.

Exactly where I am on all points.

I honestly don’t get this move. Like Nunez or not, there was no need to clear him out to make room for Sam Travis...

Why was it the right thing to do? The Sox used his roster spot to promote Sam Travis and his sub-.400 OPS.

Sam Travis is “Mr. March”. (I would also accept “Mr. Florida” or “Mr. Grapefruit”.) Crushes in spring training, but once the regular season starts, his inability to hit MLB pitching is on full display. And it’s not like he brings any defense or versatility to the Sox here either.

No idea why, during the most baseball-intensive stretch of the season when depth is vital, Dombrowski clears out an actual versatile (albeit limited) Major League player and promotes one of the least useful minor leaguers in the entire organization...

The one thing I can think of is they are really concerned about Benintendi. Perhaps they are considering a platoon situation, at least for the rest of this year? Travis can play left and while Nunez has done so in the past, I don’t think he has played OF with Boston and his knee may not allow him to do so anymore.

If the Sox need a RHH left fielder, I can understand that. But that the best internal answer is Sam Travis, it’s a loud statement about how weak this farm system is. Travis has logged all of 74 games in LF in the majors and minors combined.

I’d actually have preferred bringing up Cole Sturgeon, who is left-handed (making for a bad platoon partner) and extremely likely to struggle vs MLB pitching. But at least he’s a superior defensive outfielder.

So back to my calls this March for an actual fourth outfielder on this team.

Somewhere, Rusney Castillo is crying for a pay cut...

Nunez and Holt's fragility is the reason we traded Buttrey for Kinsler.

Well, that and neither seem to excel over the long haul...

The only thing I ever liked about Nunez (when he was on the Yankees) was how his helmet always went flying off his head when he ran to first, rounded the bases, etc. Dude was an awful fielder, had a decent bat, and was kind of a bonehead on the bases.
