It's not looking very good for the good guys, but the fat lady has not sung yet. Cora has not given up yet, which I'm glad to see. I think playing the minor leaguers at this point sends the wrong message.

I am not delusional. I know our chances are not good at all. That said, never give up and never give up hope.

The fat lady was singing after the sweeps to the Yanks and Rays weeks and weeks ago.

Take off the ear plugs, my friend!

So Cora won't see what the young guys have and he won't let any veteran pitcher throw more than 4 innings? WTF is his strategy here? Burn out the bullpen for next season already?

I guess he's getting a long look at our marginal pen arms for 2020. That's about it.

Marco & Travis should be playing nearly everyday.

Let's see what Centeno, Dalbec and maybe even Ockimey or Chatham have.

Let DHern go a few more innings deep.

Centeno is a 31yo journeyman who might not even be in the organization next year. Anfd I think DHern is probably already being used in his best role. I hope he isn’t starting next year. Too wild.

I also think Travis is being used in his best role - weak side platoon.

Ockimey, Chatham and Dalbec could all get a look, but bear in mind - and this applies mostly to Dalbec - if the view is any or all of these players are trade bait, the exposure can work against Boston. And with Dalbec, who gets significant value from 3b defense, playing him at 1b kills any chance he can redeem whatever value he potentially loses if he struggles and has way too many strikeouts...

Minor league seasons ended last Monday; everyone who is going to come up is up.

Plus if they bring up Dalbec, et al now, do they lose a year of control (I honestly don’t know)?

I expect the guys competing for 1st, 2nd and utility will be Chavis, Travis, MHern, Lin, Holt, Dalbec and Chatham. Maybe I don't appreciate Ockimey but I don't see him. Of those Marco, Lin and Holt are left handed and are flexible for utility. Holt is the most proven ML but is a FA. Chavis will likely be given the shot first based on his power and likely improvement at the plate. We know Travis as a 1st and outfield possibility and an okay hitter. Dalbec can play 1st or 3rd and has power but has to prove he belongs, while Chatham is very flexible at 3rd, SS, 1st and possibly outfield. He is a line drive hitter who might gain power if he adds 15 pounds of muscle. My oppinion is we try to keep Holt, Chavis and either Dalbec or Chatham.

Centeno is probably more of Leon. Maybe we can find a younger backup defensive catcher who can at least hit his weight.

You don't lose year of control but you burn up one of his 'options'.

You do burn up a month of control, but September call ups don’t count as option years...

Dalbec is with the team but not activated. Giving him a no pressure/no clock look at about 20 more MLB games. Work him out, get him a Fenway Frank and the kid is happy until next Feb.

We're going to be adding Dalbec before the rule 5 deadline.

I'd like to see him this year, but if it takes away a year of control, then no.

I know your a die hard fan and that is commendable. I am sure there are reasons for playing some of our guys like Moreland and Travis, but I take the other view that we are already prepping for 2020. Getting 20 games of experience in the bigs might help a few kids. I am thinking of Dalbec here and if we brought up potential starters now they would only get into a few games. Chathaqm interests me as he has a real chance of supplanting others at 2nd or as a key utility guy. Duran may just be too raw for the bigs and another few months of minor league play may help him more than getting into MLB games now.

We're all die hard fans here who just take different approaches to viewing the season. I can't blame anyone who has given up on the season. I just can't do it, and as the manager, I would hope that Cora wouldn't do it either until the math says he has to. Play every game like game like you're in a playoff hunt. The time for auditioning the kids will come.

On a side note, I haven't seen Bell around today. I hope he and anyone else in that area made it through Dorian okay.

I see your point, but some of these guys are very borderline roster players.

Some will be gone- some might stick around. Let's see who should stay.

FiveThirtyEight now lists the Red Sox postseason chances at less than 1 percent:

... which are still better odds than those of my Seattle Mariners, who were nipped 21-1 on Sunday in Houston.

FanGraphs has the Red Sox postseason chances at 1.1 percent:

Thanks Kimmi. We lost power for 2 days, otherwise fine.

That's good news, and yes, welcome back.

Losing power is a pain in the ass but at least it didn't happen in the winter when we have to worry about a 'little' thing like.... frozen pipes.

I get it. The chances are very slim.

That said, until there is no chance, there is hope.

Yet the team can and does get shutout with the bats going cold. Right now there is a period where we need some fire but the fire has gone out in our bats. Statistics don't tell the story.

No, they don't.

Whenever we really needed wins, we went flat.
