Devers has a 917 OPS the last two weeks.

Right about the time some were advocating benching, platooning or demoting him to AAA.

I know. But I keep thinking that most of those pitches he's hitting are mistake pitches. As Jerry pointed out during the game, Devers can't stay away from that high hard one, and he also can't hit it. When pitchers get that pitch there Devers is toast.

A pretty high percentage of hits are on mistakes, aren't they? Or as they are now called in postgame interviews, pitches that 'grabbed a little bit too much plate'.

yup. pitchers never ever ever ever want to be middle middle that is where everyone's red hot zone is. anytime a pitch is there its a mistake. (unless you have a 10 run lead and are 2-0 on batter).

that is idiotic. when we handed the 20 year old the starting 3b spot with the Boston Red Sox we all signed up for the valleys that come along with it. demoting him does nothing. we agreed to allow him to suffer, adjust, suffer, adjust at the ML level. DD made that decision for us last year but it now has to be "owned".

Personally i believe he will improve greatly the next couple years on the Defense side and he will absolutely learn to lay off the high FB.

I totally agree, and I still think the call-up was the right move.

Our 3B situation has been in shambles since before Middlebrooks. At least we have some promise. At best, we have a guy that can still hit over .800 this year and higher in years to come.

Rafael Devers has posted 0.8 fWAR in 71 games while Pablo Sandoval has posted 0.6 fWAR in 59 games.

Baseball Reference must be a day behind by listing Devers with 0.1 bWAR in 70 games and Sandoval with 0.7 bWAR in 58 games.

Each collects a paycheck from the Red Sox.

No need to rub it in.

Exactly.

I've seen do many posts where fans complain about how other teams promote their top prospects and deal with the development as it happens, but the Sox make the fans wait too long to see them. So when the Sox do bring a player up early and he struggles, that's not acceptable either....

What he is doing in San Francisco is irrelevant. Sandoval’s only value to the Red Sox is what he would have provided to Boston. There was nothing in the 2+ years he was here that indicated he would have provided much of anything.

Cut that out. We are supposed to disagree and I really like that notion--all of it.

My views as well. You can't leave the good ones down there forever. In this case, maybe it would have been nice, but there was an absolute need and that need got filled. You live with the growing pains. That is just how it works. He is going to be just fine.

Totally agree. He won't be harmed in any way by going through some growing pains.

Maybe he read the thread

Then please continue to trash him thoroughly.

Rafael Devers is so bad if he fell off a cliff, he wouldn't hit the ground.

Your turn.

He might need one in the ribs to decrease his comfort in there. A Sevy 100mph shot should do it

Classy fan. This guys good against us, let’s try to injure him!

I'm just glad he's not in AAA, as you suggested he needed.
