why is that?

I'm not sure I'd necessarily expect a guy on a $100M contract to be involved with fentanyl nonsense. I'd go with the guy who has gotten into the most trouble with the law and isn't paid that much: Steven Wright. Maybe Pedroia because he's from NoCal and his family doesn't have a squeaky clean reputation? Maybe Hembree or Swihart? IDK.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect anyone on the Sox to be involved with this stuff.

I think we handled this NEWS pretty well. It sounded unbelievable, but most of us probably said, in our heart of hearts . . . . "if this was going to happen to ANYBODY on the Sox, yeh.... I guess i'd probably pick Hanley??? I guess?

What an odd way to look at it.

Agree. As far as I know, it's been reported that they grew up together in the DR, and that the guy claimed to be delivering something from Hanley's mother. They could be best buds (which a lot of people seem to be more or less assuming), or it could be some old family friend that he rarely sees or talks to. Either way, he won't be the first baseball player to be acquainted with some shady individuals.

Fair point Slash. I shouldn't have said "most of us in out heart of hearts . . . would pick Hanley."

I own that... I won't belabor the point, but you already know when I turned on Hanley & Panda in that final month of 2015, with both on the DL, IN MY MIND exhibiting the behavior of two major stoners. IN MY MIND they both looked and acted majorly BAKED.... WASTED out of their minds. Yucking is up & hanging all over each other while the Sox were completely imploding. So completely out of it that they didn't give a s*** about their guys descending from on high earlier in the season, to a doormat for the rest of the league...

So, based on that behavior, and chronic bloodshot eyes, I inferred that they are stoners. NOT NOT NOT because they are "dark islanders with dreads" as you accused me of a few pages ago.

Again, I don't want to get back into that at all. I respect you thinking I'm full of s*** with my perceptions of Hanley & Pablo! I really do. I get that some could think, based on their own situations, "that I'm unfairly judging them based on their race...." BUT I'm not.

I've so clearly spelled out why I would "pick Hanley" out of all current Red Sox players to get himself wrapped up with some druggie.

Again, because I actually really like Hanley, and think he really tried to redeem himself after 2015, I also CLEARLY SAID that I hoped like hell that it was some stupid mistake!!! Thank God it was!!!

Anyway.... I definitely don't want to get into a pissing match with you! I do respect where you are coming from on this, but I hope you can respect my perceptions? Honestly, I can't believe others didn't see what I was watching in 2015???? It was so bad that both guys were asked to leave the team early for a long vacation. This type of thing does not often happen. Their BEHAVIOR AND DEMEANOR was that bad.

Anyway, I hope that answers your question, "why's that?"

Other than that, we're cool. I hope! :)

That's a very black and white way of looking at the world (particularly when we can only guess at the level of association between Hanley and this guy, or how aware Hanley was of whatever criminal stuff he was into), but I respect that you feel that way.

we always have been.

as for your other points....i dont believe both were asked to leave the team and i certainly dont believe they had bloodshot eyes.

:) good to hear Slash. No hard feelings. We used to argue about some pretty stupid stuff. A good deal of that was my fault. I enjoyed mixing it up in the old Wild Wild West. We all clearly let it go way over the top. It was nutty. Fun in a way, but nutty in retrospect.

As for the two being asked to leave the team early? That is manifest and fact. As for bloodshot eyes? Easy enough to look up. Google Fat Panda hanging on Hanley during batting practice 2015 September.

Anyway.... it's all good. Glad Hanley is likely completely in the clear on this crazy story!!

I looked back over the thread. Who prejudged his guilt on this? Even Harmony who was trolling the issue because the “Option” issue is finally settled did not prejudge his guilt.

No one flat out said he is guilty. There were a few, including yourself, who made comments presuming he was guilty.

If I've learned anything from the past 24 hours, it's that some people really aren't happy with the idea of using their comments to form an opinion on their comments. Step easy Kimmi... ;)

Yes. For having poor judgement.

Not for the crimes the other guy commits.

It might not be poor judgement though. The guy could be a seemingly stand up citizen with no indication that he was involved in drugs.

Mods, I urge you to check out Hitch's body of posts. You guys do a great job, and I trust your judgment on this, but it might be worth a quick audit.

Seriously?

You are trying to get Hitch banned?

The problem is that the hand you are referring to has no basis in reality. Over the past few years, Hanley has shown himself to be in steep decline. He's not a guy you can pencil in as a contributor over the long haul.

He is certainly worth a shot at league minimum. If he could have a good April, he could have a good July, August, September.

Now you are in backtracking mode. No one did say it. And the only only comments “presuming” guilt were inferences made by you. Don’t put words in the mouths of others. I made no such statement presuming guilt. Edited by a700hitter

That’s up to to mods. I have not lobbied them to do anything. An audit of the body of posts of an obnoxious troll may not be a bad idea.

I am glad to hear that you are capable of learning. Up until now, the fact that you get everything wrong while trolling made me doubt that.

I've also learned: people who point out your mistakes/desperate attempts to avoid having to say "I was wrong" = Troll.

It's been a YUGE learning day for me, Donald.

I'm going to throw the flag on this play, anyone in here can go back to page 47 and look at your first couple posts after the news broke. They scream someone who is presuming guilt.

He also edited his post a couple of times because he was tripping over his own words when trying to make it look like he hadn't.

You are absolutely wrong. I was presuming that it it might have had something to do with his release. I never remotely presumed his guilt on any of it. I didn’t even weigh in on the issue of him smoking pot.

I do like to correct misspellings from time to time, but I didn’t edit any substance.

The only post of mine that could be mistakenly interpreted as presuming guilt was the one where I said that the Feds are dusting off the hot seat for Hanley. I put that line in as a joke. It is a line a line from “On the Waterfront” and the post to which I was responding had a line from On the Waterfront. I could understand that some people are not familiar with the less notable movie line that I used. It is one of my favorite movie lines delivered by Lee J. Cobb, “Don’t you understand. They’re dusting off the hot seat for me.”

And I'm the one who first posted the prelude to the On The Waterfront, "He coulda.......

and somebody, I think 700 finished .... "been a contender."

Jesus.

The bitching and moaning over a few people implying that Hanley "COULD BE in trouble," is ridiculous.

THE F'ing point being, NOBODY outright said, "oh he's f***ing guilty as hell." NOBODY said that.

Did some of us wonder if Hanley MIGHT have gotten himself mixed up with some dipshit friend's drug dealing somehow on the periphery?

Did we wonder aloud if he was running around with some rich drug dealing fools from his past DR days? We were all speculating on what multiple news sources were saying was a legit investigation? Seems it wasn't, and this Michelle McP... had her head up her are a.

Jesus. Let it go. We were wrong to even speculate as to why Hanley was "under investigation." It sounded damned serious, and we were all trying to get our heads around it.

This childish gotcha game is nonsense, but if it pumps you up, go for it.

I was dead wrong to speculate in any way. Ok... what else?

Oh... I'm not wrong about Hanley & Pablo in 2015. I still like Hanley!!! Pablo? Hate him because he became a useless DRAIN on the Sox, and still is. I'll get over it.

Let's calm down with the gotcha "you lied" ********. Perhaps someone was imprecise in their verbiage, and YOU incorrectly jumped on an inference. That nonsense could go on all day, back & forth. It's ridiculous and childish.
