I think the problem with Hanley at this point is even if he's innocent, which he very well may be, a team might not want to put up with a headache or the drama. It would probably be well worth it if he was putting up better numbers but he looked pretty bad for the last month. A lot can change. He could get cleared of everything and a team might get desperate and need a bat. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Okay, I will put this to bed and be the bigger man. I will plead to being wrong about the reporter not knowing who Hanley was. Mea Culpa. Of course, this admission makes my point even stronger that the reporter in question engaged in irresponsible news reporting. Knowing that Hanley was a Red Sox player whose future earning power is highly dependent on preserving his good name, she should have verified her story before smearing him. I have my two offspring home together for an eight-day stretch for perhaps the last time as one just graduated from college and the other just finished her freshman year. The younger one leaves Friday for five weeks in Africa while the other moves to Washington D.C. next month for her first post-college job.

 

It's bittersweet ... but good.
