Congrats Hugh! Just don't tell A700 that you are taking paternity leave. He'll just lose his s*** all over again.

Okay, I will put this to bed and be the bigger man. I will plead to llbeing wrong about the reporter not knowing who Hanley was. Mea Culpa. Of course, this admission makes my point even stronger that the reporter in question engaged in irresponsible news reporting. Knowing that Hanley was a Red Sox player whose future earning power is highly dependent on preserving his good name, she should have verified her story before smearing him. I hope Hanley sues her for defamation. It feels good to unburden myself, especially when it bolsters my argument.;);):P:p Thank you.

Thank you for being the bigger man, I'm definitely a petty little prick sometimes

I was actually thinking of going with Hugo because it's the Spanish derivative of my name and my son will be 1/2 Colombian but my Wife doesn't like that name for a first name.

You never realize how many people you hate until you have to name a kid. We settled on Theo for a first name, not really because of Theo Epstein although I thought it was pretty cool.

my man!

might i suggest:

the day of his birth...name the little guy after whoever is the Red Sox "player of the game" that day.

Jackie Bradley Hugh

JD Hugh

Xander Hugh

Mookie Hugh

surely the Mrs. would agree with this approach?

Obviously Mookie Hugh. For multiple reasons...

Awesome name! But you really ought to leave out the part about it not really being because of Epstein. ;)

Congrats Hugh!

LOL! Only for overpaid ballplayers who only work 6 months a year. Don’t get me started on Starting Pitchers who work 35 days a year if healthy.

A good starting pitcher who starts 30+ games faces more batters over a season (often over 800) than any hitter ever got in plate appearances (sometimes over 700).

Don't get ME started!

I agree. If a pitcher misses a start, that is like him missing 27+ opposing ABs. That’s like a hitter missing 5-6 games to watch his wife breast feed the baby while collecting $500k of leave pay. Don’t get me started.

Another terrible truth.... I never took a day for any of my kids. It's that good old New England Puritan / stupid Irishman upbringing. I just couldn't do it. I'm sure even my bosses thought I was crazy, but it's tough to get old tapes out of your head.

Be the first to work, & last to leave. Always give your all. The boss is the boss....

Even when I've become the boss.

Even just 11 years ago, in the age of enlightenment. When only Neanderthals didn't take time off.... I just couldn't do it.

If I could do it over Again, I would absolutely taked a week off. Any more, & you're just a pussy. ;) kidding. ... I think???

I don't even know any more, the tapes are so ingrained ....

Great! My f***ing pilot's name is RIP Dougherty!

RIP ????

Dougherty????

A dumb f***ing drunk Irishman who is destined to crash with the name RIP.

Just great!

Yes. Congrats! Exciting times!!! Kids are awesome!!! They MAKE your life worth while.... :)

It's kinda great when they start leaving too. 2 down, 1 to go!

There is a glimmer of light at the end of that very dark tunnel . . . .

Kidding! It really is great! ALL the stages . . .

No really... even leaving is good. Just another chapter.

Lol. Mine are nearly 6 and 1.5, and I already can't wait for them to move out. :P

(Kidding, kidding...mostly.)

Many congrats to you and your family, Hugh.

I'm in West Springfield MA. Bringing mom back down to the Cape. It's completely overwhelming the level of care needed.

About to face a s*** show extraordinaire convincing my dad that they need almost 24 hr care, or she goes back into a full care facility. $20,000 / month. The system is so broken! Can you imagine $20,000 / month, unless you are destitute.

Everything will be gone within 5 years, but it's just too hard for ANY 1 person to handle, which has been the case for the past 4 months at my brother's house. So, back to dad's & either he agrees to almost full time care in the house, at least $150,000 / yr., or $240,000 in full care.

Dad, as he always does, will insist he is going to do it. It will be a s*** show!! When I took her out of the house in March, it was WWIII. My dad blames me for all of it, but she was on her death bed. Alzheimer's. Dad knows she has Alzheimer's, brain damage, and a good deal of mental illness, but has here to fore insisted that she just won't listen.....

Sorry.... venting.., ,,

It's just going to be another s*** show convincing him that there are only 2 options..... & None of them good. Convincing a man that everything he worked for his whole life will be gone in 7 years, along with the house.....

Fun stuff. :'(

But let the fireworks begin this afternoon.

Thank GOD for the Sox v. Yankees at 7:00. The one thing that has kept me & Dad from killing each other for 50 years. Yep. Our 'friction' started at about age 5. ;) no really . . .

f*** it. I'm telling my wife she's taking Ma to the Cape with my brother! I'm driving back to NY & going to the game!!! See you there....

;)

Well . . . . On second thought, if I bring it up, my wife will just say, "FU (she'd say it nicer)! Good idea... I'm going to the game & series. See you on the Cape after it's over."

Forgetaboutit! I'm not giving her any ideas. See you on NESN. :)

Sorry man. My wife's family is dealing with the same situation with great nana and "bampa". They finally got nana into a nursing facility, but it's absolutely s*** care. She just keeps getting sicker and her memory is toast. Bampa is really sad about her being out of the house, but he was no longer able to deal with her seizures and other care.

I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this. I can't imagine that it's ever an easy decision on how best to care for aging and ailing parents or grandparents.

My best to you and your family.

Thanks all.

This s***** game at least got us past any major blow up tonight.

At least it bought me a few hours working outside ;)

Big talks tomorrow . . . At least it's beautiful on the Cape.

* Pretty sad. Mom didn't even recognize the Sagamore, & didn't recognize our house as we were shuffling in. She's only been gone 3 months.

Despite all this, we've had a lot of good laughs. :)
