I'm not for releasing HRam, yet. He may still have a hot month or two in him.

I'd start by giving him a rest, ease him back in by playing him ve lefties, only, then, if he's looking better, maybe give him one more somewhat long look, depending on how Moreland & JBJ are doing. If they are both hitting, mayeb he never gets another long look.

DH/1B guys are dime a dozen. They are the easiest players to replace at the deadline. Wasting $20M on one is stupidity. I'm just hoping for a season ending injury.

MVP ....come on now your way better than that .

I posted this on the game thread, but seems more appropriate here....

Sorry to add to the negativity, but I really hoped the excellence of JD Martinez would have motivated Hanley to lift his game back to what he is definitely capable of?

Instead ..... it seems that Hanley is back to bonghits & La Bamba???

I'm sorry, but 'it almost appears to me????,' ..... granted this is only my personal opinion based upon watching him day in & day out since the day he arrived, that Hanley is back on the daily toke team? ... He seems to going hard after class clown, & the inverted Triple Crown?

I honestly don't know what the hell his problem is, but he most definitely made the most of his vacacion with Pablo, & perhaps he's decided to blow out as the court jester & ease into early retirement??? So much for thinking about that triple threat from JDM, Mooreland, and Hanley on a more regular basis?

There is no injury, so Hanley just doesn't seem to have the heart to push this club toward a World Series???? I just don't think he looks like he wants it that much?

Time to cut the cord, & let him ease into retirement after a part time role the rest of the way this season? At this point, I'm not prepared to give Hanley the ab's needed for an extension next year!!!!!

I still LOVE HIM, but I'm exceptionally disappointed with his act? Too much goof, & too little grind! We CAN'T .... ABSOLUTELY CAN'T want it from him more than he wants it for himself! I think he's done? This is not just a slump. It's Hanley allowing himself to slip back to mediocrity because he simply doesn't want it badly enough to GET HIS f***ING HEAD in the game FULL TIME! 100%!

All this based on just an 18 game sample size?

I realize the history goes back beyond 18 games, but the guy was at .874 at the end of April and carried us with many key hits and RBIs early on.

I'm all for benching him right now, but cutting the cord is way too harsh.

He's in shape. He looks healthy. Maybe this is just a horrib;e slump that he'll break out of.

Batting him 2nd or 3rd is near insanity.

My point is that his head just is not in it. He started up in earnest with the MAJOR LEAGUE goofiness around the time of the team slump, shortly after the 17 - 2 run.

I don't at all like the FLASHBACK to STONEDhenge with Pablo! I see that dopey Hanley coming back! Sorry! I just do. It's all about the body language with Hanley for me. I DON'T AT ALL see him knuckling back down. I think he's back to some old REGULAR habits.... ahhhhem.

Do I think they should simply cut bait? No. Bench his ass for a week? Absolutely. Start him back on LHP only? Yep!

I saw this coming a couple of weeks ago. This guy has been a premier hitter at times in the past, but he also has a tendency to get totally lost. I for one don't think that Cora should need to make excuses for him and say that he needs to swing at pitches that are over the plate. One would hope he would know that. He looks lost and I have recommended he be given a rest, especially since Moreland is a better defender and is hitting the ball now.

I know I am from a different time and culture than Hanley. Hes a guy who spends the time and effort to have his died curly locks and just doesn't seem to have his mind on hitting a baseball. I recommend the Yankee approach, cut the damn hair and be a man. Maybe it would take something major like that to bring him back to earth (Scotty, beam him up). I see nothing wrong with letting him sit for a full week whether righty or lefty and then stop the insanity of batting him in the critical 3 spot. Drop him to 9th where he belongs. He needs something to shake him back to reality.

This is becoming more of a story about Cora than Hanley. Cora, take some action.

Hanley has a 28 wRC+ in the month of May. I was all for letting him play if he was earning the playing time, but he's not even close to that right now.

Nearly 1/3rd of the way through the season, he's close to 40% of the way to the 497 PA's he needs to trigger the option. He's not going to be released, but I'd say it's a fine time to start cutting back his playing time significantly.

It's a shame some of those reps couldn't have gone to Swihart, who I anticipate will be traded or DFA'd today to make room for Pedroia...

What the f*** are you even talking about here. This is a bunch of pseudo racist ******** and offers no analysis on anything grounded in reality. Please adjust your tinfoil hat. It doesn't seem to be working right.

At least this chapter in our TS lives will finally close today...

Moreland has fairly won the starting job at 1b. You could keep Hanley on the roster and play him against lefties. On the other hand, when Pedroia returns, someone has to go. Aging 1b/DH types who aren't hitting (and haven't hit in 3 of the last 4 seasons including this one), don't run the bases well, and can't field, don't deserve special treatment.

The Red Sox have already paid Hanley a fortune for limited, very limited production.

I'm inclined to think that a clean break is the best way to go. Does Hanley really help you very much as a bench piece? He can't play anywhere, he can't run. I guess he might have some value against LHP, but can they find someone who can provide that value and a few other things? Probably.

YES, I'm so happy and proud of my post from yesterday. Dombrowski must have read it. LOL.

You were saying?

Yankees have released Adam Lind.

Do I see an opportunity for Hanley in NY? They have a spot on the 40-man roster now, and they will have an opening at 1B because by the time Hanley clears waivers, Greg Bird should be back on the DL.

The Yankees should probably jump on this opportunity and just trade for Hanley. That vesting option would be great for them.

Lol.

Some many of our experts on Talksox saying Hanley won't be released.

"The irony is delicious."

Wait, so you're telling me fans on a message board made predictions that did not come to pass?

Yes, that is some delicious irony right there...I guess.

You obviously do not understand the reference since you are somewhat new to the board.

The quotation marks are there for a reason. One that you are not aware of.

In that case, forgive my insult to the storied history and rich culture of TalkSox.

My affinity is solely for elf culture.

And scoreboard

A lot of fans have been calling for Hanley to be released for a long time. They are also calling for JBJ to be released, Vaz/Leon to be released, Nunez to be released, Holt to be released, and I could go on and on.

Anyone who is being honest would have to admit that Hanley being released is not a move that they saw coming today.

Actually Kimmi, I saw it. See last night's game thread, page 5 at the top. Someone asked who is getting moved when Pedey is activated and my response was one word: Hanley.

I saw that post.

I'm not sure that I'm buying that you really believed it would happen. But if you say you did, I'll take your word for it.
