JBJ has passed Leon and Nunez in OPS. (Devers is the next closest at .705.)

He's now at .649. I knew he was bound to have a nice streak at some point, but he's been going pretty well for quite a while now (not great but good).

He was at .502 on May 12th.

I'm hopeful he can stay more consistent from now on.

Can someone give me Sale's season pitch count vs last year? Asking for obvious reasons.

That rain-out last night is really going to tax the Yanks Pitching staff. Starting July 31, they play 20 straight games without a day off.

Common sense, with 100 Pitch count 6-7 inning quality start, your going to need the BP to finish it. You get bad Starts, they will really going to work that BP. BP's need days off too.

Going to be tough stretch there for the Yanks.

July 31st Trade Deadline, feel they will go for Pitching.

I would rather that they had to face deGrom last night.

Good point, but I feel in the long run, I think this will hurt the Yanks more. Forces the Starters to throw good games. 2 or 3 bad starts in a row, it can really kill a BP. Aug. 13 they would have had a day-off, now they have to play.

Is that enough?

I guess we have 5 days off in August, so maybe we can give him an extra day's rest 2-3 times AND limit his pitch count in the games he does start, so he can be stronger come October.

Yup. Has as been pointed out often - the Mets suck and even against DeGroom the Yanks were heavy favourites. Better they have to deal with a punishing physical schedule. Especially when an easier run of it lies ahead.

If we can get it up to 10%, that's a pretty good amount. Plus he also had an easier spring training than normal, where his work load was also decreased.

It's the equivalent of 2 games at about 6 innings, so combined with maybe one skipped or deferred start in August, it may start making a difference in late September. Given Sale's slender body type he should be better able to handle the endurance part than the big body guys. Hasn't seemed to be the case historically, however.

For years now people have been waiting for all kinds of things to happen to Chris Sale. First it was his somewhat unorthodox delivery and of course it has always been about his size. What he does though is continue to pitch year after year many many innings , manny manny stirikeouts with basically the same velocity that he had as a rookie. he is unusual I guess to say the least. i'm all for doing exactly what Cora wants to do with him but I am in no way convinced that he will be better for the rest he is going to get. Worth a try I guess as long as the team continues to play well. Maybe he tires late in the season - I wonder what he says about it.

no. he needs to finish the regular season at 400 less pitches than 2017. Cora will need to find him extra extra rest here on out....could have saved him an inning his last start. no need to send him back out in that game.

just look at his splits. his sept/oct numbers for his career are much worse then his other months. he runs out of bullets.

his next worst month? you guessed it! August.

We'll see how it all works out for sure. Maybe he shouldn't start his season until June.

I agree.

I hope with the 5 days off in August, we give him an extra day off 3-4 times plus limit his innings as much as possible in the starts he does get.

It would help if 2 out of the 3 guys (ERod, Pom & Wright) out back soon.

Pom is due to start soon, and we could use a nice game from him, so we can feel confident about starting him again in 5 days.

Btw....anyone else notice the amount of posts from the good ol’ old school TalkSox Yankees fans has dwindled over the past few weeks? Surely it has nothing to do with our 17-3 stretch and now 6 game ALE division lead.

Probably just a coincidence....

I did notice that. In a positive way. But remember, they're not trolling - they just have "other interests" right now. Hahaha

I think that Cora gets it with respect to when and how much rest Sale should get. Sitting him down for any length of time could possibly work against him just as well. You rest him but not in any excessive manner.

Pound me with those facts Slasher - you know I don't listen to them! lol

I hope Pomeranz comes out and pitches well just to piss off all of the guys who love to hate him too. Wake me up when Espinoza pitches in a ml game. double lol - you know I don't mean any of that stuff.

He gave up 9 HRS last Sept. out of 24, as his Pitches were flattening out, and they were very hittable. Keep an eye on that. Balls getting barreled up and hit hard.

Agreed. Maybe an extra day 3-4 times in August as we have 5 off days, and then keep his pitch count down should be just about right, but it's walking a thin line, if we rest him too much. He's in one of the best grooves seen in MLB. Messing with his timing and schedule could backfire.

I'm hopeful Cora is able to keep him fresh through October. Nobody knows if his late season struggles will go away with more rest, but logic suggests it might/should help.

Correct. I forgot about this.

Heheheheeh.

I hope Pom dominates. If he is 2nd half 2016 POM we are running away with the best record in baseball.

Espy may never touch a MLB rubber. That still doesn’t mean I think he should have been used to get Pom.

He had a chance to save an inning his last start and Cora was scared to do it. If erod was healthy I would def be begging for a 6 man rotation right now to save Sale bullets.

Did you mean first half 2016 (2.47 ERA)? Or, maybe second half 2017 (3.01)?

He also wasn't bad in the first half of 2017 (3.60). I'll take that the rest of 2018!
