JBJ is now 6 for his last 7 ABs.

A tiny sample, for sure, but he's been hitting the ball hard for a much longer time.

It's crazy how different he looks at the plate now. It's like night and day. Hope it sticks, at least for a month or so at the least.

Yep the bottom is finally turning around, good to see JBJ's hard hit balls finally finding the grass. Vaz has really turned his season around and has been hitting well for a month. Hard to understand why he only has 3 HRs because when he hit's 'em they are no doubters.

It does seem crazy, but this has been JBJ's MO for over 3 years.

I never understood the crowd that said this year was different- like JBJ didn't look hopeless all those other years when struggling through a lengthy slump.

You just plain cannot predict the future based on what a player has done the last week, month or even half season. Heck, we got people writing off Beeks over one bad start.

Like everyone, I'd prefer JBJ to be more consistent, but he has always brought us stellar defense and a bat that wakes up for a month or so here and there. CF was never our weakest link and still isn't.

Just saw where the Sox opponents are hitting .228 on the season. That's really impressive.

The staff is doing a wonderful job, and I really think our catchers have helped significantly.

Here are the OPS against numbers for 2018:

.487 Workman

.514 Kelly

.516 Barnes

.523 Haley (Wow, no Sale or Kimbrel in the top 4!)

.566 Sale

.589 Kimbrel

.633 Porcello

.635 Wright (on DL)

.667 Scott

.669 Walden (on DL)

.685 Price

.685 ERod

.686 Hembree

.744 Smith (on DL)

.755 Poyner

.756 Velazquez

.758 Johnson

.936 Pom (on DL)

1.244 Beeks

Kimbrel, Kelly, barnes and Workman all have opps' BA against below 1.62!

Yep. This has been coming for some time now.

I know this isn't going to be popular. But JBJ just padded his stats in a game where we most likely would have won no matter what player you had in centefield.

It's crazy to me to think that a guy that looks horrible at the plate for about 80 percent of the season, and then turns into Babe Ruth for 20 percent will always do the Jekyll and Hyde routine. The year he doesn't he is a loss.

Anyone think he is going to show up for the playoffs against good pitching?

It might be a different story if JBJ hadn't been making solid contact, but all of his peripheral stats say that he is due for some substantial positive regression.

If it helps him to get going with the bat, he can pad his stats all he wants.

I kinda, sortof get that. For close to a month we've been watching him sting some balls right to the defense. But, his yearly month awakening with a bit of bad luck thrown in just makes me think I'd move on from the guy if there was a chance to (and there isn't right now).

And again, he doesn't show up in the playoffs against good pitching.

Why does he only hit in the middle of a season?

I understand where you're coming from. His streakiness, aside from the bad luck, is both frustrating and puzzling.

As far as his postseason numbers go, there are two points:

1. Very small sample size.

2. You are often facing the best of the best in postseason play. It's tough for most batters to have a lot of success against those pitchers.

First off, I feel dirty slagging JBJ.

But he is usually doing his swing and miss by a mile while looking at the right field stands routine during Sept. By the time he gets up to bat in Oct, you already know the result.

he's had 25 AB's in 2 series. i dont think you can judge him on that yet. but most offense stats take a dip in the postseason because you are facing the best pitchers. so % wise his dropoff compared to his in-season stats is probably right in line with every other ballplayer.......

we probably shouldnt even bother playing the games if we make the postseason. just forfeit. because our #9 hitter "doesnt show up".

so i guess mookie doesnt show up for postseason either (269 / 729).

X really doesnt show up. 214 / 654

mitch is almost as bad. 236 / 702

But he is gone by Sept. He's back to the swing and miss stuff. By Oct you already know he is an auto out during the playoffs.

And that's why Big Papi was clutch. :D

He needs to line up his hot streak with October.

I don't think good pitching matters. It's all about him and his streaks.

If he doesn't prove over the rest of the season to be just a little more consistent, I think that he very likely may be the guy traded this winter. I won't like seeing it but it is real possibility this time around. The biggest question I have today is - Is this his scheduled rest day? Will he be in the lineup like he should be? Keep that streak alive.

I could see us trading JBJ this winter, too, especially if he ends up over .700 or .750.

I hope we keep him.

I haven't checked. For the love of Mexican corn, please tell me he is in the lineup for today.
