If we know nothing else about Dombrowski, we at least know if he has a prospect with any trade value, he WILL trade him...

I agree - He will do that for sure but only for the right deal.

He is a dope like Buch. He learns, he forgets.

think you are right - i've felt this way for awhile now as in a couple of years. He is a more powerful version of Buch for sure but I think that people should keep their expectations of him realistic.

That's about 80% true. He hasn't traded Benintendi or Devers. He has a select few that he hangs onto.

I don't think that he is apt to trade either one of those guys but I guess you never know. I don't think of either of those guys as prospects though. That being said, if he continues trading chaff and getting wheat in return like he has been doing, I'm all in.

My guess is we have prospects with equal or greater value than Espinal, the guy we gave up to get Pearce.

I think his point was they were prospects during DD's tenure here and were not traded.

Yes, they are no longer prospects.

An excellent point at that. Find 2-3 more StevePearce type deals.

If anyone can find them, it is likely that it will be DD.

Every team needs guys like Pearce, Reed & Nunez '17.

DD does seem to excel in this area.

Pitching and defense. Good for them

Incredible isn't it. I'm glad we've played most of our games with them.

I'm a little suspicious that they've done something to the air in the TropDome that makes it impossible for other teams to hit there.

In this home stand against NYY, HOU & WSH, the Rays have allowed 12 runs in 8 games, and 6 of those were in one game. In their last 10 at the Trop they've allowed 13 runs.

Filled it with decent pitching?

Well, my snarky friend, how about their pitching SPLITS?

Home ERA 2.84

Road ERA 4.38

So then apparently they have not filled the air in other stadiums with decent pitching...

Right. It can't possibly have anything to do with some parks being more conducive to hitting than others.

The Trop has always been a lousy place to hit.

Of course, there are probably instances when better home pitching also gets a big boost from familiarity on team defense...

Why would the Jays pay some of the salary for Pearce? No reason they didn't have to do it. Except you pay to get better Prospects. By the way went 2-4 with a Triple in his first game in A+. I Understand not the name you see around websites, but this kid had a upside. Not much in the Minors these days you can say about.

You answered your own question correctly. If the Sox took on Pearce's entire contract, they would have given up less...

Oakland is also making a move for that 2nd wildcard spot. They are still 7 behind Seattle, but they've passed the Angels, winning 12 of their last 14, including the last 6 in a row.

Well the Trop has always been a pitcher's park. That has been Tampa's MO to punch above their weight, no? A ballpark where fly balls go to die, and build the team around guys who can pick it. (28th out of 30 in Homerun park factor) It is a sound way to create value out of a team which does not have a ton of money.

Decent pitching, outstanding defense, and a ballpark where fly balls go to die ... only two ballparks are worse for homeruns and one (Oakland) does it with comically absurd amounts of foul territory.

Something tells me that the Trop would be a hard place to hit because of the optics as well. It looks like it would be like playing in a giant Wal-Mart or something.

Well put. I've been there. At least the rug isn't blue any more.

If it was all about the park, how do we explain this?

TBR Batting

OPS

Home: .718

Away: .697

Runs/gm

Home: 4.05

Away: 3.77

Could it just be they built their team for their park much like the Yanks and Sox have done?
