Huuuuuuge liability. He's a backup. I hope he never plays RF in Fenway. Remember Wily Mo Pena? Pena was better in RF for the Sox than JD was last year.

That's what I thought. I saw that he was wanting to get time in the OF and not just be DH though, hopefully he's not going to get much if any time out there.

I think that JD if given the chance to play some left field will prove that he is better than most people think he is out there.

Yeah, and then immediately after that, brake his ankle crashing into the LF wall... hmm, No thanks. Let’s keep his OF play to a minimum. It’s not why he’s here

I wonder how much time he gets in the OF. Isn't he kind of a liability out there?

He's a liability doing anything but swinging the bat. I could see him getting some run in LF and 1B though (maybe provide some help on day after night games, doubleheaders and such) ... but I figure >120 of his starts will be DHing.

And really bad things have a way of happening to novices out in Fenway's left field...Hanley and Swihart in the last few years alone.

1B is interesting idea tho. If JD wanted to sure, if not that’s ok too

He could break his ankle or anything doing just about anything else. Basically, I have no problem with him playing some left field and I think that if any of you think that he will just dh for this team, you are dreaming. I do not think that he is as bad as people seem to think that he is. He will get a chance to prove me wrong.

So I'm hearing you say that you think that it would safer for him to be in the infield than to play an occasional left field. Sorry - can't agree with that one either.

He can pack his 1b mitt for next ST after Hanley's option doesn't vest and he's not sitting on the Sox bench.

Either? Oh, you want him to play LF, right? Meh, 1B is basically just standing there w/ the occasional short dive here & there. You typically don’t have to prove much as an athlete at 1B as much as you would in the OF. There’s a big difference between running full speed and diving compared to simply diving. So yeah, I definetely think 1B is a safer position than OF.

JD should play LF in Fenway and maybe RF elsewhere, whenever an OF'er needs a rest. This will allow HRam to DH (and rest some) and Moreland to get some ABs at 1B.

I'm expecting JD to play about 20 games in the OF, assuming no OF'er goes on the DL.

Can Nuney play adequate LF ??? Let him play it then ....not the 100 million dollar man with a prior Liz injury ....now when we make it to the World Series ????? Let's talk about JD in RF against NL teams on the road .

Yes, Nunez can play LF. I want him at 2B until Pedey returns.

I get the idea of trying to keep JD healthy, but giving HRam time at DH has benefits as well. Plus, JD wants to play OF, so I'll throw him a few bones and cross my fingers.

if you are going to put a defensive liability on the field, 1B or LF is where you do it. Hanley's journey from mildly below average SS to comically inept LF is a very rare one.

I agree with this. I think the major reason though is that I played and coached for so long. Coached a lot longer than played.

Sorry - I think that you are absolutely wrong. 2 different opinions and that is not bad. In terms of safety, something that I don't think Cora will consider when he puts his team on the field, you can throw a blanket over those two position.

I expect him to see some time in left field obviously as well and before I hit him with the tried and true analytical analysis that he really stinks out there, I'm going to reserve judgement until I actually have a chance to really watch him play.

This sounds good ...lot of risk though .

Yeah that’s ok bud. And he’s obviously going to get some games out in LF, the position he at least knows.

Scotty making much more sense than usual LOL

Boras apparently worked his butt off to get this thing done as quickly as possible. A bit of respect for him in that regard.

Just for the sake of having an argument, though, I think playing first base has to be a little safer and/or easier on the body than playing left field, in Fenway at least. You don't tend to smash into walls very often playing first.

He will play some outfield when the other guys need a break.

But he really is that bad defensively.

I hope we get chance to see how bad he is. lol

How many of you out there can honestly say that you have watched and scrutinized the way he plays in the field? Raise your hands.

Defensive metrics trumps your old eyeballs. You should know that it is not necessary to even see a player perform to know that he sucks!

Jeesh. Get with the program old dude.

Ah f*** you stole my thunder!

Really it's getting to the point that there is absolutely no reasons to watch the games. You can get as much enjoyment and information form a spreadsheet!
